Clinical Midwife Consultant – Lead Change Across Maternity Services Use your expertise to strengthen screening, prevention, clinical pathways and support for pregnant people across Metro South Health About This Role Your new role:
Role Join Metro South Health as a Clinical Midwife Consultant and play a key role in strengthening preventive health care and improving outcomes for pregnant people and their children. Working as part of the Supporting Healthier Pregnancies Initiative, you will provide expert midwifery leadership and collaborate with maternity services, clinicians and key stakeholders to embed sustainable improvements across antenatal care. You will:
- Provide advanced clinical and professional leadership to support the implementation of preventive health care, recommended screening and effective pathways to ongoing support across Metro South Health maternity services.
- Work collaboratively with the Office of the Chief Midwife Officer, MSH clinicians and multidisciplinary stakeholders to embed contemporary, evidence-based antenatal practices and strengthen clinical triage and referral pathways.
- Contribute to initiatives that address barriers to preventive health care, including screening for vulnerable women, chronic disease and future health risks, as well as strengthening smoking and vaping cessation support during pregnancy.
- Build and maintain effective networks across government, non-government and consumer stakeholders while providing expert advice on clinical practice, policy, service development, education and research.
About You We are looking for an experienced and passionate midwife who can bring advanced clinical expertise, strong leadership and a commitment to improving health outcomes for women,
families and communities. You have:
- Demonstrated advanced clinical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to provide protected, evidence-based and individualised woman-centred midwifery care.
- Proven ability to lead clinical practice improvement, service redesign, quality initiatives and the implementation of contemporary midwifery-led models of care.
- Highly developed communication, collaboration, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across multidisciplinary, government, non-government and consumer groups.
- A strong commitment to culturally safe practice, health equity, education, research and workforce development, with the ability to translate evidence into improved midwifery practice and outcomes.

Unit Profile The Metro South Health (MSH) Executive Director Nursing and Midwifery (EDNM) Division provides overarching governance, leadership, strategic support and guidance for the Nursing and Midwifery professions across the health service. The EDNM Division is responsible for creating and delivering the MSH Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and associated Workforce, Education and Research priorities in alignment with the MSH Strategic Plan.
