Communications Engineer – Land C4

- Contract: 12-month contract, commencing January 2027 through to December 2027
- Location: Russell, Canberra
- Security Clearance: NV1 clearance required
- Technical Focus: Defence communications, tactical networking, systems engineering, C4ISR, MBSE and digital engineering

About the Opportunity Join a major Defence capability modernisation program supporting the evolution of Army’s Command, Control, Communications and Computing (C4) capabilities. As a Communications Engineer, you will provide specialist systems and communications engineering expertise across capability development, technical assessments, architecture and integration activities, helping shape future-ready capabilities in a complex Defence environment.

Your duties will include:

- Develop and maintain capability requirements, technical standards, architectures and Defence capability documentation.
- Provide specialist engineering advice across tactical communications, networking, satellite communications and cryptographic systems.
- Analyse technical risks, dependencies, interfaces and interoperability considerations to support capability decisions.
- Support technical investigations, risk-reduction activities, demonstrations, trials and evaluations.
- Prepare technical assessments, briefs, recommendations and decision-support material for senior stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Defence, industry and technical stakeholders while supporting governance, assurance and systems engineering activities.

Skills and experience we are looking for:

- Demonstrated experience developing, refining and managing complex system or capability requirements across multiple projects or systems.
- Strong systems engineering experience, including systems baselines, requirements traceability,



design coherence and change-impact assessment.
- Experience with system-of-systems integration, technical dependencies, interfaces and interoperability.
- Understanding or practical experience with MBSE and contemporary digital engineering methodologies .
- Robust technical analysis, written communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide evidence-based engineering advice.
