Company Accountant – Part time (3 days/week) in South Melbourne

Own the finances of a growing Australian defence and emergency-services technology company. This role is FLAIM's sole in-house finance resource, a hands-on position with end-to-end responsibility and a direct line to the CEO.

About FLAIM

FLAIM is a Melbourne-based immersive training technology company, founded from a Royal Australian Navy defence contract with Deakin University. Today we design and deploy XR training systems for firefighters, emergency responders and defence personnel around the world, people who work where the cost of being unprepared is measured in lives.

The role

Reporting to the CEO, you will own FLAIM's financial operations from transaction to month-end report. You will give the CEO accurate, timely view of financial position and cash each month, keep FLAIM compliant with all statutory obligations, and continuously improve how finance runs in our Odoo ERP.

What you'll do

- Month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, management reporting and cash flow forecasting
- Customer invoicing, debtor management, supplier payments and expenses
- Payroll, STP, superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax and FBT
- BAS/IAS, export and FX transactions, and support for the annual tax return,



R&D; Tax Incentive and external audit
- Fixed asset register and inventory reconciliation
- Automating and documenting finance processes in Odoo

What you'll bring

- 5+ years' experience in a senior accounting or financial controller role, including full reconciliations and month-end close
- Degree in accounting, finance or a related field
- Sound working knowledge of Australian payroll, STP, superannuation, GST and BAS
- Hands-on Odoo experience, or strong experience with another cloud ERP and the ability to get up to speed quickly
- Strong Excel skills and high attention to detail
- Able to work independently and deliver a fixed monthly cadence on a part-time schedule
- Clear communicator who is comfortable in a small, fast-moving team

Highly regarded

- CA or CPA qualification
- Experience in technology or B2B businesses with high-value contracts
- Export and international tax reporting (US, Canada, UK)
- Inventory accounting and R&D; Tax Incentive experience

- Permanent part-time or fixed rate contract, 3 days per week (0.6 FTE)

- Package negotiable - hourly rate $65.00
