The Centre Dural
Dural
The Centre Dural is a Baptist church and community hub in Sydney’s Hills District, bringing together church, sport, hospitality and community life under one roof. Our purpose is Making Jesus the Centre through Play, Prayer and Presence.
Across the week, people connect with The Centre through netball, futsal, pickleball, Inflatable World, our café, children’s and family activities, Hands and Feet, the Men's Shed and Sunday worship. Many have little or no connection with a traditional church.
We believe Christian ministry happens both when the church gathers for worship, formation and community and when we scatter into everyday life as followers of Jesus.
About the Role
We are looking for a Community & Discipleship Pastor to help develop disciples, emerging leaders and Christian community while building a genuine Christian presence within the everyday life of The Centre.
This is not simply a Sunday or church-office role. Alongside discipleship and gathered church responsibilities, approximately one day-equivalent each week will involve working within the operational life of The Centre. This may include café, sport, Inflatable World, events or other community-facing environments.
This will involve working alongside our teams serving customers, setting up courts, cleaning up, helping people and contributing to the practical life of The Centre. We believe consistent presence creates opportunities for genuine relationships, Christian witness, discipleship and new forms of Christian community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and strengthen our discipleship and small-group ministry.
- Invest intentionally in teenagers, young adults and emerging leaders.
- Identify, mentor,
equip and release people into discipleship and leadership.
- Develop accessible opportunities for people to explore Jesus, Scripture and Christian faith.
- Provide appropriate one-to-one discipleship and pastoral follow-up.
- Work regular operational shifts within agreed areas of The Centre.
- Build relationships with staff, customers, families, players and regulars.
- Participate actively in the Sunday worshipping community.
- Contribute to preaching, prayer, service leadership or worship according to gifting and agreed responsibilities.
- Develop and experiment with new expressions of Christian community and discipleship.
- Help connect the gathered church with the relationships and mission occurring across The Centre during the week.
- Equip others to participate in relational mission and disciple-making.
- Work closely with the Senior Pastor and wider Centre team.
About You
- Has a mature and active Christian faith and is committed to the life and mission of the local church.
- Is passionate about helping people become followers of Jesus.
- Relates naturally to people who may have little or no church background.
- Can develop, mentor and release emerging leaders rather than needing to personally run everything.
- Relates well to teenagers and young adults.
- Is comfortable moving between church,
workplace and community environments.
- Is willing to undertake operational work as part of their ministry.
- Is a relational initiator who listens well and allows trust to develop over time.
- Is willing to experiment, start small and develop new ministry opportunities.
- Can contribute meaningfully to Sunday worship according to gifting.
- Works collaboratively with ministry staff, operational managers, employees and volunteers.
- Has appropriate theological/ministry formation or equivalent ministry experience.
Musical or worship-leading ability would be valuable but is not essential.
Employment Conditions
This is a full time position including Sunday ministry and some evening/weekend work.
Approximately one day-equivalent per week will involve operational work embedded within Centre life. These hours may be strategically distributed across the week rather than occurring as a single shift.
Remuneration will be approximately $90,000 per annum plus superannuation, with final remuneration taking into account experience, qualifications and accreditation and the Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT remuneration guidelines.
A six-month probationary period applies.
Appointment is subject to appropriate references, a current Working With Children Check and relevant Baptist Safe Church requirements.
This role requires an active Christian faith and alignment with the beliefs, mission and ministry ethos of Dural District Baptist Church.
