ANZUK Executive invites applications for the inaugural position of Director of Performing Arts at St Hilda’s School, an independent Anglican day and boarding school for girls from Pre-Prep to Year 12.

This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished Performing Arts leader to shape the strategic, creative and cultural direction of Performing Arts across the School. Working across Music, Drama and Speech & Drama from Preparatory to Year 12, the Director will champion participation, performance excellence and a lifelong love of the Arts for every student.

The Performing Arts are an integral part of the St Hilda’s experience, providing students with opportunities to participate, perform, develop confidence and pursue excellence. The School’s program encompasses Music, Drama and Speech & Drama across the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools, with a diverse calendar of ensembles, productions, concerts, competitions and community performances.

The Opportunity The inaugural Director of Performing Arts will provide strategic and creative leadership across the School’s co-curricular and extra-curricular Performing Arts program.

Reporting to the Deputy Principal - Middle and Senior School Operations, the Director will establish a clear vision and strategic plan for Performing Arts, building on the School’s rich traditions while identifying opportunities for innovation, growth and greater participation.

This is a prominent whole-school leadership position, responsible for leading and developing a talented team of teachers, conductors, directors, tutors and visiting artists. The Director will work collaboratively across the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools to ensure a coherent and ambitious Performing Arts program that reflects St Hilda’s identity and aspirations for every girl.

A central focus of the role will be balancing performance excellence with broad and meaningful participation,



ensuring the most gifted performers are challenged and supported while creating an environment where every student can discover the enjoyment, confidence and transformative potential of the Arts.

The Director will also play an active role in the Performing Arts program, including teaching, conducting or leading a performance group.

Key Responsibilities (Abridged - full details in the Position Description)

Key responsibilities include

- Establishing and delivering a strategic vision for Performing Arts across the School
- Providing whole-school leadership across Music, Drama and Speech & Drama
- Ensuring continuity, coherence and high artistic standards from Preparatory to Year 12
- Leading, mentoring and developing Performing Arts teachers, conductors, tutors and visiting artists
- Building a culture that values both broad participation and performance excellence
- Overseeing major Performing Arts events including productions, Gala Concerts, musicals, eisteddfods and competitions
- Developing opportunities for students to perform within the School and broader community
- Supporting student leadership and developing Creative Arts Captains, Prefects and other student leaders
- Developing pathways for students through examinations, festivals, competitions and external arts opportunities
- Working with Admissions to develop and strengthen the School’s Music Scholarship program
- Building strong relationships with students, families, staff and the broader arts community
- Managing the Performing Arts calendar, resources, budgets, facilities and operational requirements
- Ensuring appropriate risk management, compliance and child safety practices across Performing Arts activities
- Promoting the achievements and profile of Performing Arts within the School and wider community
- Working collaboratively with Marketing, Community Connection and Advancement and other key areas of the School
- Maintaining an active presence at major Performing Arts and community events

About You The successful candidate will be an accomplished Performing Arts leader who demonstrates:

- Significant and successful experience leading Performing Arts within a high-performing educational setting
- A compelling philosophy for Performing Arts education and the leadership presence to bring others into that vision




- A proven ability to grow participation while maintaining high artistic and performance standards
- Outstanding personal performance skills in Music and/or Drama, with accomplished conducting or directing experience
- Proven ability to lead, inspire and develop a diverse team of teachers, conductors, directors, tutors and visiting artists
- Strong artistic judgement and the ability to establish and maintain high creative and technical standards
- Experience managing complex co-curricular programs, events, calendars, budgets and resources
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, families, staff and external stakeholders
- Experience managing sensitive stakeholder matters with tact, diplomacy and professionalism
- Strong understanding of risk management, safety, compliance and child protection requirements
- A collaborative, inclusive and improvement-focused leadership style
- Queensland College of Teachers registration
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Performing Arts, Music Education or a related discipline, with postgraduate study highly regarded
- A genuine commitment to working within a faith-based, all-girls school setting and alignment with the Christian ethos and values of St Hilda’s School
