Core Disability Support Services is seeking an experienced Disability Support Worker to provide one-to-one support to an adult NDIS participant in Thornlie. This position is best suited to an experienced support worker and requires demonstrated experience supporting participants with complex psychosocial disability, mental health needs and behaviours of concern. The successful applicant should be confident implementing Positive Behaviour Support strategies, recognising early signs of escalation, using de-escalation techniques and maintaining a calm, low-arousal and non-confrontational approach.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one support to an adult NDIS participant
- Support community access and social participation, including regular Sunday morning support to attend church and Friday community activities
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies
- Recognise early signs of escalation and use de-escalation techniques
- Maintain a calm, low-arousal and non-confrontational approach
- Build and maintain a consistent and trusting relationship with the participant
- Complete high-quality progress notes and incident documentation
About you
- Demonstrated experience supporting NDIS participants with complex psychosocial disability, mental health needs and behaviours of concern
- Previous hands-on experience recognising and responding safely to behavioural escalation
- Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans and following behaviour support strategies
- Sound understanding of de-escalation, low-arousal approaches and trauma-informed support
- Ability to remain calm, professional and non-confrontational during challenging situations
- Strong ability to build rapport while maintaining appropriate skilled boundaries
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Current Australian driver's licence
- Reliable vehicle with comprehensive motor vehicle insurance
- Appropriate Australian work rights
- Ability to complete clear, accurate progress notes and incident documentation
- Relevant qualifications in Disability, Mental Health, Community Services or Individual Support are highly regarded
