About the role: FEMALE ONLY SUPPORT WORKERS
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Female Disability Support Worker to join the team at Trucareqld. This is a casual position based in Cairns, QLD. As a Disability Support Worker, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives within their communities. Your work will directly impact the quality of life and wellbeing of the people we support, making this an essential position within our organisation.
What you'll be doing
- Provide personalised support and assistance to individuals with disabilities in their daily activities, including personal care, mobility, and household tasks
- Assist clients in accessing community activities, social events, and recreational programmes to promote social inclusion and engagement
- Support clients with meal preparation, budgeting, and other life skills activities to foster independence and self-confidence
- Maintain clear and accurate records of client interactions, progress, and any concerns that arise during support sessions
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, carers, and other members of the support team to ensure coordinated and holistic care
- Respond sensitively to the physical, emotional, and social needs of clients, adapting your approach to individual requirements
- Promote dignity, respect, and choice in all interactions, ensuring clients maintain control over their own lives
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and follow health and safety protocols to protect the wellbeing of clients and yourself
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture by collaborating with colleagues and supporting team objectives
What we're looking for
- A genuine passion for supporting individuals with disabilities and a commitment to promoting their independence and wellbeing
- Previous experience working in disability support, aged care, community services, or a related field is highly desirable
- Robust communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with clients and colleagues
- Physical capability to assist clients with mobility and personal care tasks, including manual handling where appropriate
- Patience, empathy, and emotional resilience when working with individuals facing complex challenges
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, whilst remaining responsive to supervision and team feedback
- Sound understanding of safeguarding principles and commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and dignity
- Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it
- A valid driver's licence and reliable access to transport (desirable)
- Flexibility to work varied casual hours, including potential weekend or evening shifts
- Working With Children Check (WWCC) and/or National Police Clearance may be required depending on role requirements
