The Role The APS 6 Electronic/Combat Systems Technical Specialist is accountable under broad direction to perform electronic engineering work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

The key responsibilities for this role includes:

- Undertaking shipyard surveillance, inspection, assessments and reporting on electronic, communication and combat systems equipment, sub system, system and whole of ship installation progress and quality.
- Providing assurance against electronic systems requirements and legislated standards.
- Providing technical advice within electronic engineering areas of specialisation during ship production and acceptance, related to product quality assurance.
- Assisting the technical assessment of electronic aspects of design changes and deviations.
- Supporting the development and review of specifications, plans, procedures and design documents.
- Undertaking review of quality assurance, technical and test reports;
- Formal test witnessing for electronic, communication and combat systems testing.

About our Team Naval Construction Branch (NCB) is accountable for the assurance of ship construction, set-to work and transit of vessels constructed at the Osborne Naval Shipyard and Henderson precinct. We have branches in Osborne SA and Henderson WA, as well as a smaller presence in Port Macquarie, NSW.

NCB is furthering continuous naval shipbuilding and growing sovereign capability by overseeing the construction to ensure quality and standards are met, storing lessons learnt and developing standard shipbuilding procedures for construction.

NCB will oversee the construction of many different Navy vessels including Offshore Patrol Vessels, Hunter Class Frigates, Young Endeavour, Evolved Cape Class and Pacific Patrol Boats.



Working at NCB will enable you to be at the grassroots of continuous naval shipbuilding, where you are part of a working shipyard, being able to see and contribute to the vessels delivered and used in service by Navy.

NCB currently has highly skilled and diverse shipbuilding experience which will be shared to grow your hands-on construction knowledge. You will work alongside Navy personnel, internal project management officers and Prime contractors. The prospect for technical staff to undertake industry placement is also available.

Our Ideal Candidate The Naval Construction Branch team is looking for a confident, self-starting individual who is passionate about problem solving, product delivery and demonstrates strong initiative and attention to detail in a dynamic environment.

- Support the Team Lead and NCB leadership team by monitoring and effectively reporting the progress of assigned tasking in a timely manner.

Mandatory Qualifications: This technical position requires the individual to have obtained a recognised Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 6 qualification in a relevant technical domain or relevant skills and work experience such that an individual can reasonably achieve a recognised AQF qualification if required by the position.
