Natek is a National Engineering consultancy firm. We deliver specialised forensic and structural consulting services to a diverse client base, with a strong focus on the causation, prevention and rectification of structural damage to residential, commercial and infrastructure assets.

The Role

We are looking for an Engineer and Building Consultant to join our forensic team in Canberra. The successful candidate will primarily undertake forensic structural inspections of residential and commercial buildings and prepare engineering reports. Further on the track, there may also be an opportunity to work on engineering remediation designs within our growing remediation design team.

This role involves travel throughout Canberra and regional surrounding area, typically to complete four or more site inspections per week. Interstate travel may also be required on occasion.

A current driver’s licence and Construction Induction Card (White Card) are essential for site access.

What are we seeking:

We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Junior Structural Engineer who is eager to develop their skills within a collaborative and professional consulting environment. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and attributes:

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Minimum one year of relevant Australian engineering experience .
- Proficiency in industry-standard software, including AutoCAD, SPACE GASS, Structural Toolkit, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated understanding and application of relevant Australian Standards and the National Construction Code (NCC), including experience preparing engineering calculations, drawings, and technical reports.
- Familiarity with key Australian Standards, including but not limited to AS 2870, AS 1684, AS 1170, AS 3600, and AS 4100.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare transparent and concise technical documentation.
- An interest in residential structural engineering, forensic engineering, and building pathology.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.




- Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, contractors, builders, and other stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a developing engineer to gain practical experience across residential, commercial, forensic, and remedial engineering projects while working alongside experienced industry professionals. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of forensic engineering, structural assessment, and remediation-related activities, including:

- Conduct forensic structural inspections of residential, commercial, and low-rise buildings, including roof space, subfloor, and other confined access areas where required.
- Investigate, assess, and determine the causes of structural damage, defects, movement, and performance issues affecting buildings and structures.
- Prepare transparent, concise, and technically accurate engineering reports, presenting findings in a manner that can be readily understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Develop practical remediation strategies, repair recommendations, and scopes of work for builders, property owners, insurers, and other project stakeholders.
- Undertake impartial and evidence-based forensic assessments for a wide range of clients and stakeholders.
- Prepare structural calculations, engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation using software including AutoCAD, SPACE GASS, and Structural Toolkit.
- Assess compliance with relevant Australian Standards, the National Construction Code (NCC), and accepted engineering practices.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting project deadlines, quality standards,



and internal performance objectives.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, site documentation, and project correspondence.
- Liaise professionally with clients, builders, insurers, contractors, legal representatives, and other stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers and technical staff to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the company's forensic investigation and remediation design capabilities.
