Role Description The English Teacher will deliver engaging and inclusive English lessons to pupils aged 11–16, following the school’s curriculum and contributing to high standards of literacy and critical thinking. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and preparing lessons, assessing and recording pupil progress, providing constructive feedback, and differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning needs. The role involves maintaining a positive classroom environment, managing behavior in line with school policies, and promoting the REACH values across all learning activities.
The teacher will participate in departmental meetings, contribute to curriculum development, and support enrichment activities such as reading initiatives and clubs. This is a temporary, on-site role based at Gladesmore Community School in Tottenham, NSW, requiring regular collaboration with colleagues, parents, and carers to support pupil achievement and wellbeing.
Qualifications
- Relevant teaching qualification (e.g., degree in English or related field plus recognized teaching certification) and eligibility to teach at secondary level.
- Proven experience teaching English to learners aged 11–16, including planning, delivering, and evaluating lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
- Strong skills in classroom management, behavior support, and creating an inclusive, respectful learning environment for diverse learners.
- Ability to assess pupil work accurately, use data to inform instruction, and provide clear, constructive feedback to support progress.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to model high-quality language use and promote reading and literacy.
- Cooperative approach to working with colleagues, parents, and carers, and commitment to the school’s ethos and REACH values.
- Competence with educational technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, reliability, and flexibility to contribute to enrichment activities and wider school life
