Our Opportunity
The Assistant Director, Property & Services is a key leadership role responsible for managing the Melbourne IP Office (MIPO) in a service delivery context while contributing to national property, facilities and environmental management outcomes. The role works under limited direction and exercises sound judgement, autonomy and accountability to deliver high-quality services, manage risk, and provide strategic and technical advice on property and facilities matters. The position works closely with the Director, Property & Services, the MIPO executive sponsor, internal business areas, building management, service providers, contractors and other Commonwealth entities. The role is expected to lead a small team, maintain solid stakeholder relationships, resolve complex operational issues, and promote a culture of service excellence, compliance, continuous improvement and positive risk management.
Due to the nature of work for this role, a suitable candidate would be expected to work predominantly on-site in Southbank, Melbourne Victoria.
Job specific capabilities
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their:
- leadership capability, including the ability to guide, support and develop staff while building a positive service culture
- strong judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex operational, stakeholder and compliance matters under limited direction
- highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate and persuasive advice, reports and briefings
- excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to build productive relationships, negotiate outcomes and manage expectations across diverse internal and external stakeholders
- experience in, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, property and facilities management, lease administration, contract management, procurement and compliance obligations
- an understanding of relevant Commonwealth frameworks and obligations, including work health and safety, risk management, financial management, procurement, protective security, records management and environmental reporting
- the ability to manage competing priorities, deliver outcomes within timeframes and maintain accurate information to support decision-making and reporting
- a commitment to customer service excellence, continuous improvement, innovation and evidence-informed decision-making.
