Café in Hawthorn is looking for an experienced Café Chef to join our team on a permanent part-time basis.
We are looking for a reliable and experienced chef with strong café and brunch experience who can confidently run breakfast service and contribute ideas as we refresh our menu.
Saturday AND Sunday availability is essential. Please do not apply if you are unable to work both weekend days on an ongoing basis.
You will work as part of our existing kitchen team and help us continue improving the quality, consistency and presentation of our food. What You Must Be Confident With
You should be able to independently prepare and execute:
- Poached, scrambled and fried eggs
- Omelettes
- Eggs Benedict and similar brunch dishes
- French toast
- Pancakes
- Toasties and sandwiches
- Modern Melbourne-style breakfast and brunch dishes
- Busy breakfast and brunch service
You must be comfortable working independently and should not require training in basic café cooking techniques. Menu & Kitchen Development
We are currently refreshing and simplifying our food menu and would like someone who can bring practical ideas and strong café experience.
The role will include
- Contributing ideas for new Melbourne-style brunch dishes
- Refreshing and improving existing dishes
- Improving plating and presentation
- Helping standardise recipes and portion sizes
- Maintaining consistency across service
- Managing food preparation efficiently
- Supporting food cost and waste control
- Working collaboratively with the existing kitchen team
Our goal is to create food that feels contemporary, premium and Melbourne café-style, while remaining practical and efficient during busy service.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of recent café/brunch kitchen experience
- Relevant chef/cook qualification or commercial cookery training
- Strong breakfast and brunch experience
- Excellent egg cookery skills
- Ability to run kitchen service independently when required
- Robust plating and presentation skills
- Good understanding of portion control and food preparation
- Reliable, punctual and organised
- Calm and efficient during busy periods
- Strong communication and teamwork
- Available every Saturday and Sunday
