Steelstruct Engineering is seeking an experienced Fabrication Checker for our Henderson workshop. This role suits a trade-qualified Boilermaker with a sharp eye for detail and a solid understanding of fabrication and welding.

Steelstruct Engineering is a privately owned Western Australian company delivering fabrication, machining, hardfacing, fitting and maintenance solutions for the mining, mineral processing, infrastructure and defence sectors.

From our workshops in Henderson (WA) and Rayong (Thailand), we manufacture and refurbish structural, mechanical and piping packages for major OEM and end-user customers.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisors and supporting our QC team, the Fabrication Checker will carry out routine inspections of materials, processes and finished products at each stage of fabrication. The role involves identifying defects or deviations early and making sure all work meets required specifications, quality standards and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

- Check incoming materials and components against current approved drawings and project requirements, including grade, dimensions and identification.
- Check work at the stages required by the inspection and test plan (ITP), including hold points before further processing.
- Dimensionally check fit-up, alignment and orientation before welding.
- Check that welding follows the applicable welding procedure specification (WPS) and ITP requirements, raising issues with QA and the welding coordinator.
- Inspect fabrication during and after welding,



checking completed welds visually and identifying distortion.
- Carry out final check items against approved drawings and ITPs before coating, subcontract processing or despatch.
- Record inspection results, complete relevant ITP sign-offs and identify inspection status using the workshop ribbon system.
- Use the barcode scanner to record completed inspections against each item in the tracking system.
- Raise fabrication nonconformance reports (NCRs), identify nonconforming items and check that rectification is completed before further processing or release.
- Raise drawing discrepancies and technical queries with workshop supervisors, project engineers and QA.

The successful candidate will have:

- Boilermaker trade qualification.
- Practical experience fabricating and welding structural steel, piping and platework.
- Ability to interpret shop and IFC drawings with a high degree of accuracy.
- Working knowledge of ITPs, WPSs, NCRs and quality control processes.
- Understanding of welding distortion and appropriate controls.
- Previous checking, QC or inspection experience (highly regarded).
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability and a safety-focused attitude.
- Transparent communication and the ability to organise checks across several bays and jobs.
- Australian work rights.
