Field Service Electrician or Mechanical Fitter | Perth, WA
Perth-based Electrician or Mechanical Fitter wanted for a varied field service role: ports, mine sites and specialised equipment, with a company vehicle and very competitive rates and extras.
Cavotec is a global engineering organisation at the forefront of industrial electrification, powered cable management systems and ports & marine technologies. We're looking for a hands-on Field Service Technician to join our small, supportive service team based in Perth, supporting clients across Western Australia's mining, industrial, ports and marine sectors.
If you enjoy solving problems on site and working with specialised equipment rather than doing the same thing every day, this is a genuine long-term opportunity.
What the Role Looks Like
You'll split your time between customer sites, our workshop in Maddington and in the office for planning, reporting and technical support.
Expect around 40-50% of your time on site, mostly short trips of 2–5 days, travelling to locations such as the Pilbara and South-West, as well as ports from Fremantle and Kwinana to the North West. Occasional interstate travel may be required.
You'll work on
- Motorised cable and hose reels
- Industrial power supply systems and control equipment
- Ports & marine technologies, including automated/vacuum mooring and shore power systems
- Equipment such as conveyors, stackers/reclaimers and processing plant
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment at customer sites
- Fault find, test and diagnose in line with your trade:
- Electricians: low-voltage industrial equipment, motors, drives and control panels
- Mechanical Fitters: gearboxes, brakes, slip rings, bearings, hydraulics, drive trains, frames and structures
- Work alongside colleagues of the other trade and build cross-skills over time
- Complete service reports, risk assessments and documentation
- Be the professional, safety-first face of Cavotec with customers, both on site and by phone
What's On Offer
- $118,560 base salary + superannuation, depending on experience
- All hours paid including travel, plus site allowances, daily per diem and performance bonuses. Typical total earnings are around $150,000+.
- Fully maintained company vehicle, plus tools, laptop and phone
- Structured training on Cavotec technology, including formal product training / factory training / cross-skilling support
- Permanent, full-time role with a global engineering brand
- A friendly, down-to-earth team
About You
- Australian trade qualified Electrician (with current WA Electrical Worker's Licence) or Mechanical Fitter
- Experience in field service, industrial maintenance or a similar hands-on role
- Confident fault finding on industrial equipment such as motors, drives, gearboxes, controls or mechanical drive systems
- Able to read electrical schematics and/or mechanical drawings
- Happy to travel to remote sites and work overtime when required
- Strong commitment to safety, quality and customer service
- Full driver's licence and full Australian working rights
Highly Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience in mining, heavy industry, ports, marine or bulk materials handling, particularly in WA
- Experience with motorised reels, cranes, conveyors, stackers/reclaimers or automated equipment
- Electricians: PLC and VFD knowledge
- Fitters: hydraulics experience or an interest in electrical systems
- Current tickets such as working at heights, confined space or MSIC
