Choices Flooring Esperance is a locally operated flooring business servicing Esperance and the surrounding region. As part of the Choices Flooring network, we provide quality flooring solutions to residential and commercial customers, with a range that includes carpet, timber, laminate, vinyl and hybrid flooring.

We are seeking two people to join our installation team: an experienced Floor Finisher, ideally trade qualified, and an Apprentice Floor Finisher who is keen to learn the trade and build a long-term career in the flooring industry.

Position 1 Qualified or Experienced Floor Finisher

We are seeking an experienced Floor Finisher with practical experience in floor preparation and the installation and finishing of a range of flooring products. The successful applicant will be capable of working independently and as part of a team, delivering a high standard of workmanship across residential and commercial projects.

Skills and Experience

· Relevant trade qualification highly desirable

· Minimum one year of relevant flooring installation experience

· Demonstrated practical experience installing and finishing a range of flooring products

· Sound knowledge of floor preparation, measuring, cutting, fitting and installation techniques

· Ability to identify and rectify flooring and subfloor issues

· Competence in the safe use of flooring tools, machinery, adhesives and installation equipment

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship

· Ability to interpret measurements, plans and job specifications

· Good communication and time-management skills

· Ability to work independently and effectively within a team

· Current driver’s licence or ability to travel to customer and project sites as required

· Experience across multiple flooring types, particularly carpet, vinyl/resilient flooring, timber, laminate and hybrid flooring, will be highly regarded

Salary: $77,000–$82,000 per annum + superannuation, depending on qualifications and experience.

Position 2 Apprentice Floor Finisher

This position would suit someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants to develop a skilled trade within the flooring industry.

Mature-age apprentice applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

No previous flooring experience is required. You will receive practical on-the-job training while completing the relevant apprenticeship qualification.

Wages: Applicable apprenticeship wages based on age, year of apprenticeship and experience + superannuation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on experience and level of training, duties across the two positions will include:

· Measuring floor areas and interpreting plans and specifications to determine flooring requirements and quantities of materials required

· Inspecting and preparing subfloors and other surfaces prior to installation, including cleaning, levelling, smoothing and repairing surface imperfections

· Removing existing floor coverings, trims and other materials where required in preparation for new flooring

· Measuring, cutting and installing underlay and other flooring preparation materials

· Measuring, cutting, trimming and fitting flooring materials accurately to suit room dimensions, fixtures, doorways and other features

· Installing a variety of floor coverings, including carpet, vinyl and resilient flooring, timber, laminate and hybrid flooring

· Matching patterns and accurately cutting and fitting flooring materials around fixtures, corners and other obstructions

· Applying appropriate adhesives, nails, grippers and other fastening systems to securely install flooring materials

· Securing floor coverings and installing edge trims, transition strips and finishing components

· Installing and finishing timber flooring, including sanding, staining and applying appropriate finishing coatings where required

· Mixing and applying resin flooring systems where required

· Repairing, replacing and rectifying damaged, worn or incorrectly installed flooring

· Inspecting completed installations and undertaking finishing and rectification work to achieve a high-quality result

· Operating flooring installation tools, cutting equipment, sanding equipment and other trade tools safely and effectively

· Maintaining tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and serviceable condition

· Working with customers, builders, supervisors and other trades to coordinate flooring installation requirements

· Following workplace health and safety procedures, manufacturer specifications and applicable installation standards at all times

Apprentice duties will be undertaken under appropriate instruction and supervision, with responsibilities increasing as skills and experience develop.

Pay: $77,000.00 – $82,000.00 per year
