Love creating products that actually end up on shelves, in stores and in people’s hands?

Hinkler is looking for an experienced commercially minded Freelance Senior Graphic Designer to join our Development Team and help us dream up what’s next.

And this definitely isn’t a role where you’ll be designing the same thing every day.

One minute you could be developing packaging for a new kids’ craft kit, the next you’re working on craft, book, jigsaw, stationery range or a completely new product concept.

We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes trends someone who knows what’s hot right now, can spot what’s coming next, and knows how to turn those insights into fresh, commercially relevant design.

You’ll be excited about where creativity is heading and confident using AI as part of your creative toolkit- from rapid concepting and visualisation to exploring new styles, creating imagery and bringing big ideas to life faster.

- Use AI tools to rapidly visualise concepts, create and refine imagery, explore creative directions and develop product ideas
- Experiment with new AI-powered creative workflows and help us find smarter and faster ways to bring ideas to life
- Bring new ideas, trends, formats and finishes to the table
- Work across toys, crafts, books, games and stationery
- Design products for Australia and international markets
- Play with print finishes, materials, typography, illustration and photography
- Help shape concepts from the very beginning — not just make them look pretty at the end
- Share your experience, knowledge and new ways of working with our wider creative team

We move quickly, create a lot, and love people who arrive with ideas. YOU’LL PROBABLY LOVE THIS ROLE IF…

- You’re the person who walks through a store and automatically picks up packaging to see how it was made




- You have a slightly unhealthy number of saved design references
- You notice a great foil, emboss, die-cut or clever piece of packaging from across the room
- You know your way around InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop without breaking a sweat
- You’re already experimenting with generative AI and emerging creative tools and understand how to turn a rough idea, sketch or prompt into compelling concept imagery
- You’re comfortable combining traditional design skills with AI — using it to ideate faster, create product and lifestyle imagery, develop visual directions, mock up concepts and push ideas further
- And most importantly, you genuinely love making things

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR We’re looking for someone with around 8+ years’ experience in senior graphic, product or packaging design, ideally across stationery, books, craft, consumer products, FMCG or other trend-led categories.

You’ll need exceptional Adobe Creative Suite skills, a strong understanding of print and packaging, and the ability to take an idea from an initial concept through to beautifully resolved artwork.

We’d also love to see strong AI capabilities within your portfolio or creative process. We’re interested in designers who aren’t afraid to experiment with new technology and can demonstrate how AI can enhance creativity rather than replace great design thinking.

Experience with international markets, photoshoots, licensed brands or an obsession with craft, books, toys and stationery gets bonus points.

This is a freelance chance working closely with our Development Team and Creative Director.
