Workshop & Site Labourer – Structural Steel | Currumbin, QLD
About us
Central Engineering is a family-owned structural steel fabricator with over 50 years in the industry. We fabricate and supply Australian-certified structural steel for commercial, industrial, education, health, government and defence projects across QLD and NSW. We're a team of around 50 and we're known for quality work delivered on time.
The role
This is a full-time labouring role based in our Currumbin workshop, with site work when projects need it. In the workshop you'll focus mainly on preparing, cleaning and painting fabricated steel. When a job calls for it, you'll head out to site to support our supervisors and erection crews. If you like variety and want to stay busy, this role suits you.
In the workshop you'll:
- Clean and prepare steel surfaces to the required standard
- Carry out painting and coating work
- Stack and stage painted steel ready for dispatch
- Help with loading, unloading and yard movements
- Keep the paint shop, workshop and yard clean, tidy and safe
On site you'll:
- Assist site supervisors and trades with installation tasks
- Handle materials, tools and equipment safely
- Help with setup, pack-up and site logistics
- Undertake touch up and remedial works/grouting
- Keep work areas tidy and hazard-free
What we're looking for
- Previous labouring experience in fabrication, construction or a similar environment
- Construction Induction (White Card)
- Current driver's licence and reliable transport
- A safety-first attitude and willingness to follow procedures
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual work
- Able to switch between workshop and site work as needed
Highly regarded
- EWP licence (WP high-risk licence for booms over 11 m) or EWPA Yellow Card
- Spray painting or industrial coating experience
- Forklift licence (LF)
- Experience with structural steel
