Position Information

Monaro High School is a comprehensive rural secondary school situated in the beautiful town of Cooma, serving the communities of the Monaro district with pride and commitment. Around 370 students from Years 7–12 form a diverse and inclusive student body at Monaro High School, bringing a breadth of cultural and socio‑economic experiences that strengthen our learning environment.

The school enjoys a unique geographic advantage, positioned between Canberra, the Snowy Mountains and the South Coast. This provides staff and families with convenient access to a wide range of lifestyle opportunities - from skiing in winter, to coastal recreation, to shopping and cultural experiences in a major city. Cooma is also located a little over an hour from Canberra International Airport, ensuring fast and easy connection to the region and the rest of the world.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

Approval to teach 7 - 12 English and experience and/or capacity teaching Extension 1 and 2 English.

Demonstrated success in providing strong educational leadership and support of a diverse team of teachers across multiple faculties.

Proven ability to model and promote positive relationships, student engagement and staff wellbeing, to foster an inclusive, respectful and supportive school culture.

Capacity to lead whole-school literacy initiatives, strengthen explicit teaching across classrooms.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
