Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organisation delivering emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. We operate in over 70 countries and depend on skilled technical experts to maintain safe water and sanitation in the communities we serve.
We are currently seeking to build our pool of experienced HR Professionals to work with us in our overseas projects.
Overseas assignments may be between 6-12 months, depending on location and context, and recent examples of assignment locations include Yemen, Afghanistan, Kiribati and Bangladesh.
MSF provides accommodation, flights, and a monthly salary allowance of $4,250 upwards, depending on role level and experience.
As a HR Manager working overseas with MSF you will;
- Recruit and support local staff, manage employment contracts, and coordinate learning, development and performance processes that help teams thrive.
- Ensure HR policies and employment practices comply with local labour laws while supporting fair, ethical and people-focused workforce management.
- Build strong relationships with local authorities and key stakeholders,
negotiating where required and managing essential employment documentation and compliance requirements
- Keep operations running smoothly by coordinating staff rosters, leave, travel, movement and accommodation in dynamic and often challenging environments.
- Oversee accurate payroll administration, ensuring salaries, leave, overtime and other entitlements are processed fairly and in line with local practices.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 5 years Generalist HR Management experience, with strong experience in employee relations, recruitment, HR policy management and learning and development.
- Experience supervising or managing multidisciplinary cross cultural teams in a complex or resource-constrained workplace.
- Personal qualities include adaptability, resilience, and a genuine commitment to humanitarian principles.
- Ability to work in demanding, unpredictable environments.
Desirable Experience
- International HR experience, preferably within the NGO/humanitarian sector
- Experience working within low resource/low tech environments
- French language skills (B2 or higher) a strong advantage
