Knotwood designs and supplies architectural aluminium systems with a timber-look finish, including cladding, battens, screening, soffits and decking. Our products are specified by architects and builders across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the United States, and are backed by independent testing and certification in each market.

The role

We're looking for an Industrial Designer to work on new product design and innovation across our global range. Reporting to the Product Manager, you'll take ideas from concept to manufacturable aluminium systems, working closely with our Product Engineer, suppliers and international branches.

This role has two equal sides: solid technical design grounded in mechanical and material knowledge, and the ability to present products clearly and attractively to internal teams, architects and customers.

Technical design

- Design new aluminium extrusion profiles, components, accessories and assemblies that integrate with our existing systems

- Produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models in AutoCAD and 3D CAD software

- Apply design-for-manufacture principles: wall thickness, tolerances, alloy and temper selection (e.g. 6060/6063), finishing, joining and fixing methods

- Check fit, function and installation sequence across assemblies

- Work with the Product Engineer on validation and with suppliers on prototyping, tooling and production

- Identify gaps in current product systems and develop solutions to complete them





Product presentation

- Create high-quality renders and visual material showing products in architectural settings

- Prepare concept boards and presentations for product reviews, leadership and international teams

- Support marketing and sales with imagery for launches, catalogues and digital channels

- Communicate design intent clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements

- Degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Design or a related field

- Demonstrated mechanical design experience on your resume, ideally with metals and alloys

- Proficiency in AutoCAD plus at least one 3D modelling package (SolidWorks, Inventor, Rhino or Fusion 360)

- Working knowledge of rendering tools (KeyShot, V-Ray, Enscape or similar)

- Strong visual presentation and communication skills

- Understanding of manufacturing processes, especially extrusion, machining and surface finishing

- Full working rights in Australia

Highly regarded

- Experience with aluminium extrusion, façades, building products or architectural systems

- Familiarity with Revit or BIM workflows

- Adobe Creative Suite for layouts and presentation material

- Experience working with international teams
