We’re home to two of the finest 18-hole championship courses, both ranked in Australia’s top 100, and we’re busier than ever with over 110,000 rounds a year, 2,300 members, and a growing membership waitlist.
We are also a proud signatory to the R&A; Women in Golf Charter, reflecting our commitment to growing the game and creating a more inclusive and accessible environment. We actively foster a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere for women, girls and families, ensuring everyone feels valued, supported and encouraged to participate in the game.
About the Role
Love working outdoors, being hands-on, and seeing the results of your work every day? This is an exciting opportunity to join The Grange’s Course Maintenance Team in a specialist role responsible for the water and irrigation systems that support our two championship golf courses.
Working alongside the Course Superintendent and senior team, you’ll combine hands-on problem solving with system management, water efficiency and involvement in future irrigation projects.
This role offers a pathway to develop into a specialist irrigation position, with increasing responsibility as your skills and experience grow. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take greater ownership of water management, system performance, irrigation projects, contractor management, budgeting and future infrastructure planning.
With exciting major irrigation improvements in planning and professional development supported by the Club, there’s plenty of scope to grow your expertise and make the role your own.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own our irrigation systems: oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, fault finding and performance of irrigation infrastructure across two championship golf courses.
- Keep the water moving: work across pumps, bores, water storage and transfer systems, wetlands and ASR infrastructure.
- Make every drop count: monitor water use and identify opportunities to improve efficiency,
conservation and overall system performance.
- Support great turf: work closely with the Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and senior course team to deliver the water requirements needed for consistently high-quality playing surfaces across 37 golf course holes.
- Help shape what comes next: contribute to system upgrades, capital planning and our future irrigation improvements as we modernise our irrigation infrastructure.
What You’ll Bring
- A positive attitude and the ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a high performing team.
- A strong leadership mindset, with the ability to lead by example, contribute positively to team culture and mentor other staff members.
- Experience within irrigation, turf, horticulture, golf course maintenance or a similar landscape environment.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of issues from identification through to resolution.
- Great attention to detail, particularly when monitoring systems and water use.
- A strong commitment to safety, reliability and delivering work to a high standard.
- Flexibility to work around seasonal conditions, irrigation requirements, tournaments and major Club events.
Specialist Skills We’d Love to See
- Experience across some or all of the following would be highly regarded:
- Central irrigation control systems.
- Sprinkler operation, maintenance and fault finding.
- Pump, bore and groundwater systems.
- Irrigation auditing and water-use monitoring.
- Basic electrical and irrigation control systems.
- Irrigation design, installation and project delivery.
- Relevant irrigation, horticulture, turf or related qualifications.
You don’t necessarily need to tick every box. We’re looking for someone with strong practical capability and the drive to continue developing their specialist knowledge,
working into the role. Flexibility That Works Both Ways
This role offers flexibility for someone who enjoys a working week that isn’t always Monday to Friday, or traditional greenkeeping hours.
Golf course irrigation is driven by the seasons, events, weather and the needs of the course. As a result, there will be times when working hours need to vary, particularly during the warmer months, tournament periods or when an irrigation issue requires attention outside normal working hours. You will have the opportunity to alter your work hours within the best interests of productivity.
Weekend work forms part of a rotating roster, with the flexibility to adjust your working week around these commitments. This is managed with a practical approach, recognising both the needs of the course and the contribution of the individual.
The role carries an expectation that the successful candidate will work a reasonable and appropriate number of additional hours when required to meet the operational needs of the course. This is balanced by the flexibility offered throughout the working week and the nature of the position.
Where additional hours worked are considered to be beyond what is reasonably expected of the salaried position, these hours will be recognised and compensated through time in lieu or another agreed arrangement in consultation with the Course Superintendent.
This role would suit someone who values variety, autonomy and flexibility, and enjoys working in an environment where no two weeks are necessarily the same. Rather than being tied to traditional working hours, you’ll have the opportunity to structure your working week around the needs of the course while maintaining a strong balance between work and personal time.
How to Apply To apply, click Apply Now and submit your resume along with a brief cover letter (maximum three pages) outlining your interest in the position and why you are suited to the role.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received, so we encourage interested candidates to apply early.
Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
