About Us
Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC) is a not-for-profit, Aboriginal community controlled organisation supporting the men who survived the Kinchela Boys Home, and their descendants and families. KBHAC's work addresses the trauma and lasting impacts of institutionalisation, and is grounded in restoration, healing and cultural integrity.
The Kin Connect program sits at the centre of KBHAC's survivor-led support for Stolen Generations Survivors, their descendants and families, coordinating access to health, housing, legal, social and community services and delivering connection, healing, identity and truth-telling activities across the KBH community.
About the Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Kin Connect Case Worker – SEWB (Social and Emotional Wellbeing) to join our team. Key duties will include:
- Provide trauma-informed casework and case management to KBH Survivors, their descendants and families
- Provide or arrange referrals to counselling and other social and emotional wellbeing supports
- Build and maintain positive relationships with KBHAC teams, KBH Survivors, their families and external stakeholders
- Apply a healing-centred and trauma-informed approach across all KBHAC activities
- Support and implement the principles of a survivor-led organisation through client engagement and case management
- Plan and deliver promotion and community education activities and events to raise awareness of SEWB issues
- Maintain effective communication with KBHAC members regarding Kin Connect gatherings and activities
- Maintain accurate case management documentation and client records in line with KBHAC policy
- Attend and participate in team meetings, staff planning days, peer development,
peer review and performance appraisals
- Attend operational and clinical supervision as arranged with the Kin Connect Team Leader
Requirements
We are seeking a candidate who:
- Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, in accordance with the genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), as this is an identified position
- Has a demonstrated understanding of the history and effects of the forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, including intergenerational trauma and lateral violence
- Has demonstrated clinical and cultural competence providing counselling or SEWB support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Has experience in social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, trauma, and grief and loss support
- Has the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and to work through difficult interactions
- ·Is able to operate autonomously with limited direct supervision
- Holds a Certificate IV in Social and Emotional Wellbeing (or the closest equivalent nationally endorsed qualification), or is working towards this
- Holds, or can obtain, a current Working with Children Check clearance
- Holds, or can obtain, a current National Police Check
- Holds a current unrestricted NSW driver's licence
