About Us

Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC) is a not-for-profit, Aboriginal community controlled organisation supporting the men who survived the Kinchela Boys Home, and their descendants and families. KBHAC's work addresses the trauma and lasting impacts of institutionalisation, and is grounded in restoration, healing and cultural integrity.

The Kin Connect program sits at the centre of KBHAC's survivor-led support for Stolen Generations Survivors, their descendants and families, coordinating access to health, housing, legal, social and community services and delivering connection, healing, identity and truth-telling activities across the KBH community.

About the Role

We are currently looking for an experienced Kin Connect Team Leader to join our team.

Key duties will include

- Lead the strategy, coordination and continuous improvement of the Kin Connect program in line with KBHAC's Practice Framework and organisational priorities

- Work with KBHAC management, Survivors, descendants, community members and the Kin Connect team to shape program priorities, planning and delivery

- Embed trauma-informed, survivor-led, participatory and peer-support approaches across all Kin Connect activities

- Support delivery of the KBHAC Practice Framework across planning, outreach, casework, Yarn Ups, referrals and team practice

- Build and maintain trusted, respectful relationships with KBH Survivors, descendants and families

- Plan, coordinate and support Yarn Ups, gatherings, outreach and other connection activities with KBH Uncles, descendants and families

- Support appropriate internal and external referrals, including to Kin Connect case workers, healing supports, health, housing, legal, family and social services

- Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and mentoring to the Kin Connect team, including the Case Worker (Health) and Case Worker (SEWB) roles

- Recruit, induct and support recent Kin Connect team members as required





- Build strategic relationships with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, healing services, government agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen referral pathways

- Manage the Kin Connect program budget, client records, data capture and case notes accurately and confidentially

- Ensure reporting is timely, accurate and aligned with funding requirements and program outcomes

Requirements

We are seeking a candidate who:

- Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, in accordance with the genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), as this is an identified position

- Has several years of relevant work experience in casework, care coordination or a related human services field

- Has sound knowledge of the complex needs of Stolen Generations Survivors, their families and descendants

- Has experience in strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches to improving social and emotional wellbeing

- Has experience in peer-based and family-systems approaches to healing

- Has experience managing or leading services for Aboriginal people that address complex needs

- Has demonstrated ability to lead, supervise and develop a team, including performance and wellbeing support

- Holds a Bachelor of Social Work or a relevant VET qualification (e.g. Certificate IV in Community Services, Social Work or Mental Health), or is working towards one

- Holds, or can obtain, a current Working with Children Check clearance

- Holds, or can obtain, a current National Police Check

- Holds a current unrestricted NSW driver's licence

- Is able to travel around Sydney and NSW for work
