Shifts Officer - 4 months Part time Contract

About the Role
We are looking for a Shifts Officer role within our PSP, UHM and SHS Services team and play an important role in ensuring our residential services have the right staffing coverage when it is needed.
This is a dynamic role where you will coordinate shift coverage, manage urgent requests, communicate with a range of stakeholders and maintain accurate rostering information. You will work closely with House Managers, Coordinators, Youth Workers and agency staff to ensure continuity of staffing and support quality service delivery. Primary accountabilities of the role of Shifts Officer include, but are not limited to:
- Manage shift cover requests across residential services.
- Source suitable coverage from permanent, casual and agency staff.
- Respond to after‑hours calls and urgent staffing requirements.
- Identify practical solutions to unfilled shifts and roster gaps.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in the rostering system.
- Document incoming and outgoing calls and actions taken to resolve staffing gaps.
- Receive handover from the On‑Call Manager or previous Shifts Officer and continue outstanding shift‑cover activities.
- Provide clear handover to the House Manager On‑Call or next Shifts Officer at the end of the shift, where required.
- Work collaboratively with House Managers, Coordinators and Youth Workers across all programs.
- Provide feedback regarding incomplete rosters and staffing gaps.
- Support follow‑up and debriefing for Youth Workers following incidents, where required.
- Ensure rostering practices for Casual Youth Workers are consistent with applicable SCHADS Award requirements.
- Contribute to improvements in rostering processes, policies and procedures.
The role requires flexibility to work across after‑hours periods, including weekends and public holidays. Operational hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am–11:00 pm, and weekends, 7:00 am–9:00 pm. Actual working hours will be rostered according to operational requirements.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Leadership & Management, and/or Community Services.
Experience & Skills:
- Experience managing urgent requests and resolving problems in a timely manner.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced environment with competing priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with House Managers, Coordinators and Youth Workers.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience using rostering systems and/or developing and maintaining staff rosters.
- Knowledge of the SCHADS Award and relevant rostering requirements is desirable.
- Ability to work autonomously and effectively as part of a team.
Essential Requirements:
- Current Working with Children Check.
- National Criminal History Check.
- Eligibility to work in Australia.
- Willingness to provide consent for Residential Care Workers Register verification through the Office of the Children's Guardian.
