Dubbo

If you know transport operations, can lead people well and naturally look for better ways to support your team and your customers, we’d like to talk to you.

You’ll lead the Summer Springs Dubbo depot: five drivers, one warehouse team member and a fleet of five trucks. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you’ll be supported to improve depot performance across people, routes, customers, costs and service.

And unlike many transport leadership roles: No nights. No weekends. No public holidays.

This is not a driving job with a leadership title attached.

Most of your time will be spent leading the team, improving the operation, working with customers and using data and feedback from the team, and customers, to make better decisions. You’ll stay close to the day-to-day operation and spend some time behind the wheel, including driver training, route familiarisation or occasional operational coverage.

Why this role exists

Summer Springs has been delivering spring water to homes and businesses across regional NSW since 1993, with depots in Dubbo, Tamworth and Armidale.

Following continued growth and a recent acquisition, we’ve created a dedicated operational leadership role for the Dubbo depot.

This is a new position created through growth, with a clear purpose: support the team, improve the operation and help grow the business.

You’ll join a growing local business with a mix of established and developing team members. One of our operational leaders has been with the business for 17 years, and several of our drivers are at or approaching 10 years.

What you’ll be doing

People and performance

You’ll lead, coach and develop the Dubbo warehouse & driver team.

That means organising rosters and run allocation, training drivers, recognising good performance and addressing standards that aren’t being met.

We’re looking for someone who is visible, approachable and close to the team. Someone who listens, supports people to do their jobs well, sets clear expectations and is comfortable holding those standards when required.

The aim is not simply to manage output. It is to build a capable, accountable team that takes pride in their work, and the customers we serve.

Operations and optimisation

You’ll use industry software, telematics, routing tools, dashboards and operational reports to make the depot work smarter.

You’ll monitor route efficiency, delivery performance, fleet utilisation, stock levels, identify opportunities for improvement and act on what the data, the team and the customers are telling you.

You’ll also oversee fleet maintenance and registrations and ensure the depot meets its Chain of Responsibility, fatigue, mass and load restraint obligations.

We don’t expect you to sit behind a desk analysing reports all day. We do expect you to understand what is happening in the operation,

use the systems available to you and turn that information into practical improvements.

Customers and growth

This role has a genuine commercial side.

You’ll build relationships with key customers, identify opportunities within existing accounts and help win new business. You’ll also have delegated authority around pricing so you can act on opportunities without every decision disappearing into layers of management.

This isn’t a pure sales role, but commercial instinct matters.

We believe great operations create great customer experiences, and great customer experiences create growth.

That means helping your team deliver consistently, understanding what customers need and recognising opportunities when they are in front of you.

Why join us

We’re still small and nimble, so you’ll have direct access to the General Manager, visibility over the teams results and genuine scope to influence how we support our customers and our team.

You’ll receive:

- $80,000–$90,000 base salary plus super

- Work vehicle and phone

- Performance bonus linked to agreed operational, growth and financial KPIs

- Permanent Monday-to-Friday work with no nights, weekends or public holidays

- Direct access to the General Manager

- Genuine scope to improve how the depot operates and performs

What you’ll bring

You’ll need:

- Experience leading people, ideally in multi-drop delivery, transport, distribution, FMCG or warehouse operations

- Robust operational judgement and the confidence to set, model and hold clear standards

- Exceptional customer service and sales capability, with examples of accounts you have won or grown

- Strong computer literacy and confidence using and learning operational systems, routing software, dashboards and reporting

- Working knowledge of Chain of Responsibility, fatigue, mass and load restraint

- A current NSW MR licence or higher and LF forklift licence

- Strong organisation, follow-through and problem-solving

What matters most is that you know how to motivate and lead people, improve an operation, look after customers and take ownership of the result.
