With our Natural Resource Management portfolio continuing to grow, we have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Leading Hand to supervise our NRM crews and help protect, restore and enhance the natural areas we manage. From native grasslands and bushland reserves to waterway corridors, wetlands and biodiversity offset sites across Melbourne and regional Victoria, you'll play a key role in delivering meaningful ecological outcomes on the ground.
This role services project sites across Melbourne and regional Victoria, reporting to our Maintenance Manager. If this sounds like you, read on!
The role
- Supervise and coordinate NRM crews to deliver works in line with contract specifications, management plans and ecological objectives.
- Coordinate crew logistics, scheduling and resources for works at regional project sites, including occasional overnight stays as required.
- Plan and deliver targeted weed control programs, including spot spraying, cut-and-paint, and selective herbicide application in sensitive native vegetation.
- Oversee revegetation works, including site preparation, planting, direct seeding and ongoing establishment maintenance.
- Maintain waterway,
wetland and stormwater treatment assets, including riparian zones and constructed wetlands.
- Uphold a high standard of safety across all sites and ensure HSEQ documentation, chemical application records and site reporting are completed in line with our ISO-accredited systems.
- Lead and mentor crew members, sharing plant identification skills and restoration techniques to help develop our people.
- Monitor site conditions and plan out works approaches, manage procurement of materials and plant stock, and coordinate equipment maintenance.
About you
- Certificate III or higher in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (or Conservation and Land Management), Horticulture, or equivalent experience in an NRM supervisory role.
- Solid native plant and weed identification skills, ideally with knowledge of Victorian Volcanic Plains grassland species.
- Practical experience in ecological restoration, bushland regeneration and broad-scale offset site management.
- Experience maintaining stormwater treatment systems, wetlands, waterways, bushland reserves or public open space is highly regarded.
- Current Chemical User Certificate / ACUP.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to lead a crew in the field.
- Well-developed time management and organisational skills.
- Willingness to travel regularly to regional sites, including occasional overnight stays.
- Current driver's licence.
