Primary objective The Manager of the NT Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Unit provides leadership, support and advice to the multi-disciplinary team,
NTPF leadership team and external local and national stakeholders.
Context statement The Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Unit is purposed to mitigate acts of violent extremism in the NT through increasing community capacity to identify and respond to behaviours of concern through: awareness raising, assessment of referrals, monitoring persons at risk of and provision of a voluntary case management service that supports vulnerable individuals to disengage from violent extremism.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise on violent extremism themes, trends and requirements for the NT.
- Lead and manage the multi-disciplinary CVE unit, staff and activities.
- Provide skilled representation, advocacy and strategic advice on behalf of the Northern Territory on national level working groups and sub-committees.
- Develop and oversee clear processes and procedures to respond to emerging threats.
- Collaborate with local and national stakeholders to increase capacity to respond to violent extremism.
- Ensure staff are adequately trained and working within operational and legislative requirements.
- Provide advice to staff and stakeholders on clinical decisions regarding clients vulnerable to, and across the spectrum of radicalisation to violent extremism.
Selection criteria
Essential
- Bachelor degree and 5 years experience in psychology, social work or other relevant field.
- Understanding of best practice frameworks and the relevant legislation, policies and regulatory frameworks for supporting vulnerable cohorts.
- Demonstrated experience administering structured professional judgment assessments tools and risk management.
- Understanding of international socio-political occurrences and their implications on local community cohesion.
- Strong strategic leadership skills and the ability to lead and motivate performance of a high-functioning multidisciplinary team,
including to set and deliver on achievable KPIs.
- Demonstrated networking and stakeholder engagement skills to collaborate, influence and negotiate.
- Operate with accountability, integrity and autonomy, with the ability to provide impartial and forthright advice to NTPF executives and within national forums.
- Strong cultural awareness and ability to promote and ensure diversity and inclusion.
Desirable
- Post graduate studies in countering violent extremism or relevant field.
- Experience in the provision of clinical assessments and advice.
- Experience working in CVE.
