The Department of Housing and Works delivers and maintains essential social housing and critical infrastructure across Western Australia—including schools, hospitals and police facilities.
We manage tenancy services, support housing provision in remote Aboriginal communities, and oversee government employee accommodation.
Through office accommodation solutions, State Fleet management, procurement, planning and asset policy, we empower other government agencies to deliver their best.

About The Role:
This role provides strategic leadership, direction and oversight of the Department's workplace health and safety (WHS) function, ensuring effective governance, risk management and assurance across a complex and diverse operational environment. Leading a multidisciplinary team, the role partners with business areas to deliver contemporary WHS services, strengthen organisational capability and continuously improve health, safety and wellbeing performance. The position plays a critical role in supporting the achievement of organisational objectives through the implementation of effective WHS systems, compliance frameworks and evidence-based safety initiatives that align with legislative obligations and best practice.
The WHS Directorate is undergoing a period of transformation and continuous improvement. The successful applicant will be a capable and resilient leader who can effectively lead people through change, foster a positive team culture, and maintain service delivery while implementing new ways of working.
About You:
You are a highly experienced and influential WHS professional with a demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and deliver contemporary health, safety and wellbeing outcomes across complex operational environments. You possess a strong understanding of legislative compliance, risk management and organisational governance,
alongside the ability to translate strategic objectives into practical and sustainable workplace health and safety solutions.
You are recognised as a trusted adviser who can build productive relationships with executives, managers, workers, Health and Safety Representatives and external stakeholders. Your collaborative approach, sound judgement and ability to influence outcomes enables you to successfully navigate complex organisational challenges.
This position operates in the context of Leading Others. This means that you will motivate and enable others to deliver high quality work. You will balance time between doing the work and coaching, guiding and developing others.
This requires a significant shift in thinking from ‘doing’ to supporting others to ‘do good work’; and consideration of present and future needs when allocating time to the team and projects you lead. You will articulate how work is to be done, providing clear direction and feedback.

Currently there is two (2) permanent full-time or part-time positions available for immediate filling. Whilst this selection process will initially be used to appoint to this advertised vacancy, it may also be used to appoint to similar positions that may arise in the Agency within the next twelve (12) months on a full-time, part-time, permanent or fixed-term basis with the possibility of further extension(s) and/or permanency.
