About Earlwood Radiology

Earlwood Radiology is an independently operated diagnostic imaging practice forming part of Alpha Radiology. The practice provides diagnostic imaging services to patients and referring medical practitioners, with a focus on high-quality imaging, patient care and timely diagnostic support.

Our Earlwood practice provides a range of diagnostic imaging services, including X-ray, CT, mammography, dental X-ray/OPG and other specialised imaging services. We work closely with radiologists, referring practitioners and other healthcare professionals to deliver accurate and efficient diagnostic imaging services.

We are seeking a suitably qualified and registered Medical Diagnostic Radiographer to join our clinical imaging team on a full-time basis.

About the Role The Medical Diagnostic Radiographer will independently perform diagnostic radiographic examinations within their professional scope, operating and adjusting X-ray, CT and other relevant diagnostic imaging equipment to produce diagnostically appropriate images for assessment by radiologists and other authorised medical practitioners.

The role requires professional judgement in reviewing imaging referrals, selecting appropriate radiographic techniques and technical parameters, positioning patients, operating diagnostic imaging equipment, assessing image quality and maintaining patient safety throughout imaging procedures.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with radiologists, referrers and other members of the clinical team while maintaining appropriate professional, radiation safety and clinical governance standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform diagnostic imaging examinations using general digital radiography, CT and other relevant X-ray-based imaging modalities in accordance with professional competency, registration and practice requirements.
- Review imaging referrals and relevant clinical information to determine the appropriate radiographic approach, imaging protocol, equipment, patient positioning and technical parameters required to obtain the diagnostic information requested by the referring practitioner.
- Prepare and correctly position patients for diagnostic examinations, adapting positioning and imaging techniques where necessary to accommodate the patient's age, mobility, injury, clinical condition or other individual circumstances.
- Operate and adjust digital radiography, CT and other relevant diagnostic imaging equipment, independently selecting appropriate exposure factors, scan parameters and technical settings to obtain diagnostically adequate images while applying radiation protection and dose-optimisation principles.
- Explain imaging procedures and relevant preparation requirements to patients,

confirm required safety information and provide appropriate reassurance and support before and during examinations.
- Observe and monitor patients throughout imaging procedures and respond appropriately to changes in their condition or circumstances within the scope of professional practice.
- Assess acquired images for positioning, exposure, anatomical coverage, artefacts and overall diagnostic quality, and determine whether additional or repeat imaging is technically necessary.
- Undertake CT examinations, including appropriate patient preparation and assistance with contrast-enhanced examinations where authorised, trained and clinically appropriate.
- Undertake specialised diagnostic imaging examinations, including dental X-ray/OPG, mammography, cardiac CT and other relevant radiographic procedures where appropriately trained, credentialled and authorised within professional scope.
- Liaise with radiologists and referring practitioners where clarification of a referral, imaging protocol or examination requirements is required to ensure that the clinical purpose of the referral is appropriately addressed.
- Recognise significant technical or clinical observations arising during imaging procedures and promptly escalate relevant matters to the supervising radiologist or appropriate medical practitioner, without undertaking diagnostic interpretation outside the radiographer's professional scope.
- Accurately complete imaging records and ensure patient details, images and relevant clinical information are correctly identified, processed and transferred through the practice's imaging systems for radiologist review and reporting.
- Apply radiation protection and dose optimisation principles to protect patients, staff and members of the public, including the appropriate use of imaging protocols and protective measures.
- Maintain compliance with patient identification, infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety, privacy, clinical governance and professional practice requirements.
- Participate in image quality assurance and relevant equipment quality-control processes and promptly identify and escalate equipment faults, image-quality issues or other technical concerns.
- Maintain professional knowledge and competency through continuing professional development and remain familiar with developments in diagnostic imaging techniques, radiation safety and clinical practice.

Qualifications and Registration To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

- A relevant Bachelor degree or equivalent recognised qualification in Medical Radiation Science, Diagnostic Radiography or a closely related discipline enabling professional practice as a diagnostic radiographer in Australia.
- Current registration with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia through AHPRA as a medical radiation practitioner in diagnostic radiography.
- A current radiation licence applicable to practice in New South Wales, or eligibility to obtain the required licence.
- Demonstrated professional competency in general diagnostic radiography.
- Sound knowledge of radiation safety, radiation dose optimisation, patient care and diagnostic image-quality principles.
- Ability to work effectively with radiologists, referring practitioners and other healthcare professionals.
- Strong clinical judgement, communication and interpersonal skills.
- A professional and patient-centred approach to diagnostic imaging services.

Demonstrated experience in general diagnostic radiography is essential. Experience in CT and other relevant diagnostic imaging modalities will be highly regarded. Experience in mammography, dental imaging/OPG or specialised CT examinations will also be advantageous where relevant to the applicant's training and professional scope. Skills and Attributes The successful applicant will demonstrate:

- Strong technical capability in diagnostic radiography and image acquisition.
- Ability to independently manage routine radiographic examinations within professional scope.
- Sound judgement when selecting and adjusting imaging techniques according to clinical circumstances.
- High attention to image quality, patient identification and clinical safety.
- Commitment to radiation protection and minimising unnecessary patient exposure.
- Robust patient-care and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy diagnostic imaging environment.
- Effective collaboration with radiologists, medical practitioners and other members of the clinical team.
- Commitment to professional standards, clinical governance and continuous improvement.

How to Apply Applicants should submit an up-to-date resume outlining their qualifications, professional registration, diagnostic imaging experience and relevant modality experience.

Please include details of your experience in general radiography and, where applicable, CT and other diagnostic imaging modalities.
