The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is Australia’s central bank and a key economic institution in Australia’s economic architecture.
The RBA’s duty is to promote the economic prosperity and welfare of the people of Australia both now and into the future.
The Australian Government is establishing an open Register to fill vacancies on the Monetary Policy and Governance Boards in 2027 and 2028.
Appointments are for terms of up to five years.
Monetary Policy Board Members The Monetary Policy Board determines the RBA’s monetary policy that, in the Board’s opinion, best contributes to price stability and full employment in Australia. It is also responsible for the RBA’s financial system stability policies.
The ideal candidate is a highly respected and independent leader with substantial expertise in at least one of: open-economy macroeconomics, monetary policy, labour markets, economic forecasting and analysis, financial markets, banking and financial system stability, industry and the business setting.
Governance Board Members The Governance Board oversees the RBA’s management and organisational affairs.
The ideal candidate is an independent, ethical and strategically minded leader with substantial expertise in at least one of: finance, risk management, technology, business operations or corporate governance.
Remuneration for these part-time roles is set by the Remuneration Tribunal. Before commencement, Board members must sign a declaration of secrecy.
Under the Reserve Bank Act 1959, a person cannot be appointed as an external member if employed by the Reserve Bank Service, appointed or engaged under the Public Service Act 1999, or a director, officer or employee of an authorised deposit-taking institution.
