Hunter Region Working Women's Group

Newcastle

Hunter Region Working Women’s Group Ltd (HRWWG) is seeking an experienced volunteer Non-Executive Director to join its Board and contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction, governance, sustainability and community impact.

HRWWG has a 50 year history of supporting and empowering women across the Hunter Region and provides governance oversight of Hunter Women’s Centre and Hunter Early Childhood Centre.

As part of our current Board skills review, we are seeking candidates with director or senior-level expertise in early childhood education and childcare, healthcare, legal and governance, finance, health, community and social services, and not-for-profit leadership and governance.

This is a strategic governance role, not an operational position. The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the organisation. The Board focuses on strategy, governance, risk, financial sustainability, organisational performance and accountability.

We are looking for a director who brings solid professional expertise, sound judgement, strategic thinking,

integrity and the confidence to contribute constructively to Board discussions. You will understand the distinction between governance and management and be comfortable working collaboratively as part of a skills-based Board.

Previous Board experience is desirable but not essential where a candidate brings strong senior professional experience and a sound understanding of governance responsibilities.

This is an opportunity to use your professional expertise to help shape the future of an established and respected Newcastle and Hunter organisation with a meaningful community purpose and make a contribution to the women, children and families who rely on its services each day.

The Board meets online bi-monthly for approximately two hours on a weekday evening. Directors are expected to allow additional time to review Board papers and prepare for each meeting.

Participation in Board sub-committees is voluntary and may involve additional preparation, actions and meetings as required to support the Board’s governance responsibilities.
