The Role

Reporting into the System Support Lead, the Classification Coordinator – Wheelchair Basketball is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of BA’s wheelchair basketball classification program. The role is embedded within Basketball Australia’s high performance department and collaborates with PA under the framework of the Australian National Classification System, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Classification Code and International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Classification Rules and Regulations. This role will ensure that classification processes in Wheelchair Basketball are standardised, consistent, and fair, aligning with international standards, while promoting athlete progression, wellbeing integrity in Paralympic sport.

Preference will be given for candidates with an understanding of sport and/or lived experience with disability, classification, and/or wheelchair basketball.

This is a part-time (3 days per week), fixed term contract role until 30 June 2028 and can be based from our Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane office. It will require occasional interstate travel and weekend work.

Responsibilities





- In alignment with BA organisational and high performance strategies, lead the development and implementation of BA’s wheelchair basketball classification program, including classification strategy, operational plans, policies and procedures.
- Coordinate, deliver and grow domestic classification opportunities, ensuring compliance with PA, IWBF and IPC classification policies, standards and rules.
- Support the Wheelchair Basketball High Performance program to prepare athletes for International Classification by managing documentation requirements and facilitating appropriate classification support and classification risk assessment.
- Coordinate the administration and logistics of sport-specific physical impairment classifier training, accreditation, and professional development activities
- Maintain accurate classification resources, documentation, and classification data in line with international standards and contemporary digital data practices.
- Respond to general classification enquiries and provide guidance to the BA community regarding classification.
- Lead internal and external education initiatives on classification, its role in athlete development, and its link to sports integrity.
- Coordinate BAs responses and contributions to classification research, rule reviews and other areas of classification system development
- Manage the classification master list, budget and data reporting.




- Support other key areas of BAs business that have responsibilities for classification including high performance, participation, coach development, athlete wellbeing and integrity.

Education and Training

- Qualifications and experience in sport management, sport development, or sport science are preferrable but not essential, depending on experience.
- Working with Children’s Check.
