Are you looking to bring your holistic nursing skillset to make a difference in the lives of Aboriginal children in WA?

Ear Foundation Australia is an award-winning not-for-profit seeking an outreach nurse to fill a key position in our passionate and experienced clinical team for the Earbus Outreach Program THE OPPORTUNITY

Our mission is to reduce the incidence of middle ear disease in Indigenous and at-risk children in Western Australia below the World Health Organisation benchmark of 4%. We will achieve this via our established Outreach programs, which demonstrate excellence in Aboriginal health.

As part of a specialised clinical team you will be facilitating ear screening, treatment and follow-up for the children and families we serve, in the regions where we operate. An Ear Foundation Australia Outreach Nurse works within our culturally appropriate visiting service delivery model to provide a complete medical pathway to Aboriginal children and their families suffering the effects of Otitis media and middle ear disease.

You will bring a community minded approach, compassion and drive to make a difference, organisastional skills, accurate documentation and reporting, holistic assessment skills and commitment to cultural and patient safety. In turn, you will form strong relationships with the communities and colleagues you work with, and experience beautiful WA lands. You will be provided with travel arrangements, accommodation and food during the outreach visits.

We are currently recruiting for the Midwest, Kimberely and Pilbara regions.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

With the ability to engage with families, communities and schools, your duties will include:

Clinical:

- Undertake otoscopy and tympanometry to identify ear disease (in-house training can be provided)
- Triaging referrals to relevant clinicians




- Administering ear treatments and managing script dispensing
- Education and treatment follow-up of families and communities
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation using an electronic health record and Best Practice (in-house training can be provided)
- Assisting Audiology, GP and ENT services
- Planning and collaboration to assisting families to hospital surgical appointments
- Promoting inter-agency and multidisciplinary collaboration and up skilling as required
- Delivering health promotion messages to individuals, schools and stakeholders

Education & Training:

- Be available for educational talks with community or school groups when required
- Provide family and patient education as neededSupervise and mentor new staff and visiting students as required
- Ensure service delivery is maintained at the required standard outlined by the policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

- Travel to regional and remote communities (approximately once a month) is a requirement of this role
- Nursing qualifications – Enrolled or Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner
- AHPRA registration - current and continuing
- Working With Children Check
- National Police Check
- Current “C” class motor vehicle licence
- Hand Hygiene Certification
- Community minded and drive to make a difference
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently as required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability for critical thinking and problem solving
- Sound practical knowledge in computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook




- Good understanding of record keeping, consent process and confidentiality (within Government legislated National Privacy Policy Principles)

Desirable:

- Prior experience working within Aboriginal Australia
- Previous experience working in remote communities
- Previous experience corking with children in an educational or healthcare setting
- Certificate IV in Ear Health
- Senior First Aid
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment
- Primary Health Care experience
- 4WD experience, advanced driver safety course/experience or LR driver’s license
