Join our team as a Parks Maintenance Officer

This role internally known as Field Officer Parks and Conservation (Parks and Assets)

Do you enjoy working outdoors, being hands-on and taking pride in maintaining community spaces that people use and enjoy every day? We're looking for a motivated and adaptable individual to join Redland City Council's Parks and Assets team.

Working alongside a supportive crew, you'll help maintain some of Redland City's most high-profile parks, gardens and recreational spaces. No two days are the same. One day you might be carrying out horticultural and landscape maintenance, and the next you could be inspecting, repairing and maintaining playground equipment, park furniture or other community infrastructure.

This is an excellent chance for someone with experience in gardening, horticulture, grounds maintenance, landscaping or parks maintenance who enjoys variety, values teamwork and takes pride in delivering quality outcomes for the community. We're seeking someone who is physically fit, keen to learn, adaptable and willing to take on a diverse range of tasks across different locations.

More than just a maintenance role, this is an opportunity to develop your skills, work across a broad range of parks and assets, and make a visible difference to the places enjoyed by our community every day.

Don't currently hold a relevant Certificate III qualification? We still encourage you to apply. If you have relevant industry experience and a passion for parks maintenance, horticulture or asset maintenance, you may be considered for appointment at Level 4 while working towards the required qualification, with support provided to develop your skills and career with Council.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Undertaking a broad range of horticultural and parks maintenance activities across Council’s parks, gardens and open spaces, including planting, pruning, weeding, fertilising and landscape upkeep.
- Operating and maintaining a variety of plant, tools and equipment to ensure public spaces are presented to a high standard.
- Conducting inspections of parks, playgrounds and other public assets to identify hazards, report defects and undertake minor rectification works where appropriate.
- Monitoring and addressing safety risks, including playground equipment condition, soft fall depths, trip hazards and other issues impacting community safety.
- Completing risk assessments and contributing to a robust workplace health and safety culture.
- Working collaboratively with team members to deliver high-quality maintenance services for the community.

Skills and experience:

- Experience delivering high-quality maintenance, horticultural, landscaping or parks-related services.

- A passion for horticulture, parks and public assets, with a willingness to learn and share knowledge with others.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain a range of plant, equipment and tools.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety, with the ability to identify, report and address hazards.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team-focused environment.
- Physical fitness and capability to undertake outdoor labouring tasks in varying weather conditions.
- A customer-focused approach and pride in maintaining community assets to a high standard.
