Job Title: Trainee Dental Assistant
Location: 1 Warneford Street, Hobart, TAS
Employment Type: Part-Time
Reports To: Principal Dentist

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated high energy person to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with the principal dentist and clinical staff to ensure seamless patient care, efficient daily operations, and strict adherence to all infection control protocols. This role requires clinical competence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the practitioner during routine and complex procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assisting & Patient Care
- Provide proactive, four-handed chairside assistance during a wide variety of dental procedures, including restorative work, orthodontics, implants, and complex surgical extractions.
- Prepare treatment rooms prior to appointments, ensuring all necessary instruments, materials, and equipment (including specialized surgical and orthodontic setups) are ready.
- Greet and seat patients, ensuring their comfort and answering any preliminary questions.
- Assist in taking and processing dental radiographs (if qualified) and intraoral scans.
- Maintain accurate and detailed clinical records, charting, and treatment notes as directed by the practitioner.
- Provide patients with clear post-operative and oral hygiene instructions.
Infection Control & Sterilization
- Strictly adhere to the Australian Dental Association (ADA) guidelines for infection control.
- Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize all dental instruments and surgical equipment.
- Maintain the sterilization room, perform biological testing, and keep precise sterilization logs.
- Clean and turnaround treatment rooms efficiently between patients to maintain schedule flow.
Practice Operations
- Monitor clinical inventory, manage stock levels, and prepare orders for dental supplies and implant/orthodontic components.
- Perform routine maintenance on dental equipment and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Collaborate with the front office team to assist with scheduling, patient flow, and occasional reception duties if required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate III in Dental Assisting (or willing to learn)
- Previous experience in a dental clinic environment. Specific experience assisting with surgical procedures, implants, is highly regarded.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or willing to obtain
