Payroll Manager (Stand-alone) | Construction | Sydney, Hybrid

Want to own payroll end to end and make it your own? This is stand-alone Payroll Manager role with a well-established Sydney construction business, where you'll be the payroll SME.

The company A successful construction firm with a small, close-knit head office team and a genuine family feel. People here look out for each other, and you'll be part of a team that values what you bring. Employees fluctuate due to projects but never exceeding 300.

The role

You'll take full ownership of payroll in a complex workplace. Headcount changes with the project pipeline, so no two pay cycles look quite the same. This isn't a role where you process and press go. You'll be trusted to run the function, improve it and drive efficiencies.

What you'll be doing

- Managing end-to-end payroll for a fluctuating workforce across multiple projects
- Interpreting and applying awards, enterprise agreements and allowances in a construction environment
- Owning all compliance, including PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax, STP and workers compensation




- Onboarding and termination of employees as projects ramp up and wind down
- Reviewing current processes and finding ways to automate, simplify and improve them
- Being the go-to payroll expert for the business and its employees

About you

- Proven experience running payroll independently, ideally in construction or another complex, award-heavy industry
- Strong knowledge of awards, EBAs and Australian payroll legislation
- Confident working on your own and making decisions
- Process-minded, always looking for a better way of doing things
- A great communicator who can build relationships across sites and office
