About the Role
n
Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation is seeking Casual Youth Workers to join our Safe Spaces team at Hedland House.
n
The Safe Spaces Program provides a safe, welcoming and culturally supportive environment for children and young people who may be at risk or require a safe place and additional support.
n
As a Casual Youth Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support to children and young people accessing Hedland House. You will help create a calm, secure and nurturing environment, respond appropriately to challenging or crisis situations, and support young people using a trauma-informed and culturally respectful approach.
n
This role would suit someone who is passionate about working with children and young people and wants to make a positive difference within the Hedland community.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
In this role, you will:
n
Provide supervision, support and engagement for children and young people accessing Hedland House.
n
Work across a flexible casual roster, which may include day, night and weekend shifts.
n
Maintain a safe, welcoming and culturally appropriate environment.
n
Build positive and respectful relationships with children and young people.
n
Respond calmly and appropriately to incidents, challenging behaviours and crisis situations.
n
Use trauma-informed and culturally safe practices when supporting children and young people.
n
Support the safety, wellbeing and individual needs of young people accessing the service.
n
Complete case notes, records, handovers and incident reports accurately and within required timeframes.
n
Follow Julyardi's policies, procedures,
child-safety requirements and professional boundaries.
n
Liaise appropriately with families, community services and emergency contacts when required.
n
Work collaboratively with other Julyardi staff, community members, Elders and relevant services.
n
Participate in team meetings, training, reflective practice and professional development.
n
Undertake other reasonable duties within the scope of the position.
n
About You
n
We are looking for someone who has:
n
Experience working with children and/or young people, particularly those experiencing vulnerability or complex needs.
n
A strong understanding of and ability to work respectfully with the local Aboriginal community.
n
An understanding of trauma-informed practice, child safety and culturally secure service delivery.
n
The ability to remain calm and professional when responding to challenging or crisis situations.
n
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
n
The ability to establish appropriate and respectful relationships with children and young people.
n
An understanding of professional boundaries, privacy and confidentiality.
n
Good time-management, record-keeping and basic computer skills.
n
The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team.
n
Experience working with people experiencing complex needs,
including mental health, alcohol and other drug issues or involvement with the justice system, would be highly regarded.
n
Essential Requirements
n
Successful applicants will need to hold, or be willing to obtain where appropriate:
n
Current unrestricted C-Class Driver's Licence
n
National Police Certificate
n
WA Working with Children Check
n
First Aid and CPR certification
n
Australian working rights
n
Ability to work a versatile casual roster, including nights and weekends.
n
Relevant qualifications or studies in Youth Work, Community Services, Mental Health, Child and Family Services or a related area would be highly regarded.
