Casual Temporary Entry Level
Posted 01 Oct ****
Description
At Chosen Family, we believe great support is about more than completing tasks.
It is about building trust, creating genuine human connection, encouraging independence and helping each person live life on their own terms.
We are looking for a calm, patient, reliable and compassionate Female Disability Support Worker to provide ongoing support to a 61-year-old male participant in North Sydney.
This is an opportunity to become a consistent and trusted part of someone's support network while helping them maintain their independence, confidence and connection with the community.
About the Participant
The participant lives with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and OCD and benefits from a support approach that is calm, structured, predictable and consistent.
The successful Support Worker will assist him to:
Maintain his independence at home and in the community
Stay engaged throughout the day
Participate in meaningful activities
Access the community
Maintain routines and daily living skills
Work towards his goal of continuing to live at home as independently as possible
This role is particularly suited to someone who genuinely enjoys companionship, conversation and relationship-based support.
The participant has an interest in current affairs, history and politics, so someone who enjoys thoughtful conversations and can develop genuine rapport will be highly valued.
The Person We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is more than simply reliable — someone who can become a consistent, trusted and positive presence in the participant's life.
You will ideally be:
Calm and patient
Warm, respectful and compassionate
Emotionally regulated and reassuring
Reliable and consistent
Observant and attentive to changes in mood or behaviour
Comfortable working independently
Able to take appropriate initiative without constant direction
Respectful of routines and the importance of predictability
A good conversationalist and listener
Comfortable supporting someone who may experience anxiety, frustration or distress

Committed to promoting independence rather than creating unnecessary dependence
An understanding of
OCD, acquired brain injury, structured routines and predictable support environments
will be highly regarded.
Female Support Worker Preferred
A female Support Worker is preferred for this participant.
The participant also prefers a non-smoking Support Worker who does not have pets.
Community Access – Vehicle Required
A reliable vehicle and valid Australian driver's licence are required for this role.
Community access is an important part of the support, and the successful Support Worker will need to be able to assist the participant with community outings, appointments and other activities as required.
You should be comfortable driving the participant to appropriate community destinations and supporting protected and meaningful participation outside the home.
Support Schedule
Monday – Sunday (6–8 hours per shift)
There is flexibility across the week, and Support Workers are encouraged to indicate the days and times they are available.
We are particularly interested in people who can offer consistent and ongoing availability, as continuity is important for this participant.
What You'll Be Supporting With
Your role may include:
Providing companionship and meaningful conversation.
Building a positive and trusting professional relationship.
Supporting a structured and predictable daily routine.
Encouraging participation in meaningful activities.
Supporting community access and social participation.
Driving the participant to appointments, activities and community destinations.
Supporting independence at home and in the community.
Providing calm reassurance during periods of anxiety, frustration or distress.
Supporting transitions and changes to routine with patience and reassurance.

Encouraging positive engagement and reducing social isolation.
Supporting the development and maintenance of daily living skills.
Following individual support strategies and guidance from the participant's support team.
Completing accurate shift notes and required documentation.
Communicating professionally with the participant and Chosen Family team.
Supporting the participant's goal of remaining at home as independently as possible.
Experience & Skills We Value
Experience in the following areas will be highly regarded:
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
OCD
Mental health support
Disability support
Community access
Behavioural support
Person-centred practice
Supporting structured routines
Companion and social support
You do not need to have experience in every area.
What matters most is your ability to provide safe, respectful, consistent and person-centred support.
Applicants must have:
NDIS Worker Screening Check
First Aid & CPR Certificate
Relevant disability or community support experience
Valid Australian Driver's Licence
Reliable vehicle suitable for community access
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A calm, patient and emotionally regulated approach
Ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative
Understanding of person-centred support
Understanding of professional boundaries
Reliable and consistent availability
Ability to complete accurate shift documentation
Experience supporting people with acquired brain injury, OCD or similar support needs is highly regarded.
