Bruny Island Premium Wine

Tasmania

Want the island lifestyle without putting your career on hold?

Bruny Island Premium Wines is looking for a motivated Chef to join our small, family owned restaurant and winery on Bruny Island, Tasmania.

This is an chance to cook with exceptional seasonal Tasmanian produce, work alongside estate-grown wines and develop under a Head Chef with extensive experience in high-end and Michelin-level kitchens.

We are ideally looking for an experienced chef who can work confidently across sections, maintain a high and consistent standard, and eventually lead service on the Head Chef’s days off. However, we care as much about attitude, ability and potential as we do about job titles. Solid junior chefs, cooks and apprentices who are serious about developing their craft are also encouraged to apply.

For the right developing chef, this is a genuine opportunity to learn strong kitchen technique, organisation, menu development, sauce work and refined cookery while gaining broad experience within a small team. You will not disappear into one section of a large brigade—you’ll work directly with the Head Chef and be involved across the kitchen. For an experienced applicant, the role offers autonomy, creative input and the opportunity to become a trusted senior member of the kitchen as the business continues to grow.

We operate seven days a week for lunch, with dinner service on Friday and Saturday evenings. This means predominantly daytime hours and far fewer late nights than a conventional restaurant role.

The role may include:

* Preparing and executing dishes consistently to a high standard

* Working confidently across sections during busy services

* Organising mise en place and coordinating daily kitchen activities

* Leading the kitchen on the Head Chef’s days off, where experience allows

* Contributing to seasonal menu development

* Working with premium local produce and wines made on-site

* Assisting with ordering, stock control and identifying shortages

* Maintaining correct food storage, stock rotation and waste controls

* Following food safety, hygiene and workplace safety standards

* Communicating effectively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams

We are looking for someone with:

* Professional kitchen experience appropriate to their level

* Strong fundamentals and genuine pride in their work

* Reliability, organisation and personal responsibility

* The ability to remain composed and effective under pressure

* Consistency and attention to detail

* Good communication and the ability to work within a small team

* An interest in seasonal produce, wine and thoughtful food

* A willingness to learn, contribute and take ownership of the role

The position can be shaped around the successful applicant’s experience. Remuneration will reflect skills, qualifications and the level of responsibility taken on.

Subsidised staff accommodation is available. This opportunity may also suit a hospitality couple, as there are other roles available within the business.

If you want serious kitchen experience, genuine responsibility and a lifestyle that leaves room to enjoy where you live, we would like to hear from you.

Please send your résumé and a short cover letter to ****@brunyislandwine.com.

All applications will be treated confidentially. The position is available for an immediate start.
