About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader, Personal Accident, the Claims Assessor plays a key role in delivering fair, timely and well-reasoned claims outcomes across our growing Personal Accident portfolio. In this 12 month contract opportunity, you’ll manage claims from notification through to resolution, applying technical expertise, sound judgement and a customer-focused approach to achieve positive outcomes for customers and stakeholders.

Working closely with brokers, claimants, medical providers and internal stakeholders, you’ll assess policy coverage, review supporting evidence, manage claim strategies and make decisions within delegated authority. You’ll balance customer needs, policy requirements and financial considerations while ensuring claims are progressed efficiently and managed in accordance with regulatory and governance requirements.

Key duties include:

- Manage a portfolio of Personal Accident claims from lodgement through to finalisation.
- Assess claim validity, policy coverage and entitlement based on available information and supporting evidence.
- Develop and maintain claim strategies that support timely claim progression and resolution.
- Review medical, occupational and financial information to support sound claims decisions.
- Manage investigations and engage with medical practitioners, rehabilitation providers,



investigators and other experts where required.
- Maintain proactive communication with claimants, brokers and stakeholders throughout the claim lifecycle.
- Accurately manage claim records, file notes, correspondence, payments, reserves and diary actions.
- Monitor and manage claim risks, escalating matters when required.
- Ensure compliance with policy requirements, delegated authority limits, regulatory obligations and internal procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance claims processes and customer outcomes.
- Support positive team outcomes through collaboration, knowledge sharing and a continuous improvement mindset.

About you

You’re an experienced claims professional who enjoys balancing technical claim assessment with delivering high-quality customer outcomes. You bring strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills and the ability to confidently manage a portfolio of claims in a rapid-paced environment.

You take a thoughtful and professional approach to claims management, communicate clearly and empathetically, and build positive relationships with brokers, claimants and stakeholders. You’re comfortable making decisions, managing competing priorities and taking ownership of outcomes, while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate concerns.

Most importantly, you’re someone who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative and positive attitude, helping contribute to the continued growth and success of the Personal Accident Claims team.

You’ll bring

- Previous experience in insurance claims, preferably Personal Accident, Workers Compensation, Income Protection or a similar claims environment.
- Demonstrated ability to assess claims,



interpret policy coverage and make sound claims decisions.
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder management capability, including experience liaising with brokers, medical providers, employers and service providers.
- High attention to detail and strong claims file management skills.
- Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and service standards.
- Understanding of claims payments, reserves and financial controls.
- Sound understanding of compliance, risk and governance requirements within claims management.
- Ability to identify and escalate risks, issues and complex matters appropriately.
- Relevant insurance qualifications desirable (ANZIIF, Diploma of Financial Services, HAS or equivalent).
- A positive team-focused approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.
