Description

The Product Designer (UI/UX) designs intuitive, efficient and visually engaging experiences across Ocean Software's product suite.

Working within cross-functional Agile teams, the Product Designer translates customer, business and technical requirements into user-centered designs that are practical, scalable, and aligned to customer needs. The role combines UX thinking with strong UI execution to deliver high-quality software experiences from concept through to implementation.

The Product Designer works collaboratively with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Developers and customers to shape intuitive, accessible and effective product experiences. They apply contemporary human-centred and inclusive design practices across discovery, problem framing, interaction and interface design, prototyping and validation. They also strengthen Ocean’s Product Design discipline through critique, facilitation, design system evolution and shared ways of working.

The Product Designer works closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Developers and customers to improve usability, streamline workflows, and support robust customer outcomes. This role suits a designer who enjoys solving complex problems, creating polished interfaces, and delivering software used in mission-critical environments.
Requirements

Essential
• 3–5 years’ experience in Product Design, UX Design, UI Design or a similar role.
• Demonstrated experience designing digital software products.
• A strong portfolio showcasing problem framing, user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity UI designs and shipped outcomes.
• Proficiency in Figma and modern design and prototyping tools.
• Experience facilitating design workshops, reviews, discovery or validation sessions.




• Strong understanding of usability, accessibility and interaction design principles.
• Experience working within Agile software delivery teams.
• Clear communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.

Desirable
• Experience designing enterprise software or SaaS platforms.
• Experience in defence, aviation, emergency services or another regulated industry.
• Experience contributing to design systems and component libraries.
• Familiarity with customer research and usability testing activities.
• Understanding of accessibility standards and best-practice design principles.
• Interest in adopting emerging design technologies and AI-assisted workflows as tools become available.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
