The Occupational Therapist is responsible for delivering high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy services to NDIS adult participants across Melbourne. The position involves a combination of working from home and providing services in participants' homes and community environments. The role does not require the Occupational Therapist to work from a traditional clinic. The Occupational Therapist will assess participants' functional capacity, identify occupational performance needs, develop appropriate recommendations and interventions, and prepare high-quality clinical and NDIS documentation. The position is designed to provide the Occupational Therapist with increasing independence while maintaining access to regular clinical supervision, mentoring and qualified support from a Senior Occupational Therapist with more than 20 years of clinical experience.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments in participants' homes and community environments
- Assess functional performance, occupational participation, activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living
- Identify strengths, abilities, barriers and support needs, considering environmental, physical, cognitive, psychosocial and behavioural factors
- Use appropriate standardised and non-standardised assessment tools and develop appropriate clinical recommendations based on assessment findings
- Complete NDIS Functional Capacity Assessments and prepare clear,
accurate and evidence-based clinical reports documenting functional limitations and support requirements
- Develop participant-centred intervention plans and provide occupational therapy intervention to improve functional independence
- Provide education and training to participants, families and support workers, and recommend appropriate environmental modifications and compensatory strategies
- Assess participants for assistive technology needs and conduct home modification assessments, developing recommendations within scope of practice
- Manage an allocated caseload including scheduling appointments, maintaining clinical documentation, completing reports within required timeframes and communicating with relevant stakeholders
- Maintain current AHPRA registration, practise within professional scope of practice, maintain participant confidentiality and follow organisational policies and procedures
About you
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current AHPRA registration
- Access to a reliable personal vehicle
- Appropriate working rights in Australia
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Current National Police Check
- Ability to travel to participant locations within the allocated Melbourne catchment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound clinical reasoning and ability to work independently
- Good organisation and time management, professional and reliable work practices, strong interpersonal skills and commitment to person-centred practice
