The Role:
As an Initial Liability Specialist, you will be the primary point of contact and fiercest advocate for our veterans during the initial liability phase of their claims. You will navigate the DVA process on their behalf, ensuring claims are accurate, evidence-based, and fairly determined.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Advocacy:Provide clear, accurate guidance to veterans about the initial liability process and their rights, using a trauma-informed and empathetic approach.
- Claim & Evidence Management:Gather and review medical evidence, identify evidence gaps, and coordinate further reports or assessments from allied health professionals.
- Legislative Application:Apply relevant legislation (including MRCA and DRCA) and Statements of Principles to ensure fair and accurate claim determinations.
- DVA Engagement:Act as the primary liaison between the veteran and the DVA, engaging with delegates to clarify requirements and escalating procedural issues or delays when necessary.
- Case Management:Efficiently manage a caseload, maintaining highly detailed, accurate, and compliant case notes while ensuring strict confidentiality.
About You (Qualifications & Skills):
- Required Experience:Prior experience working within the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA), specifically in the Initial Liability sector.
- Highly Desirable Experience:Prior experience working as a MRCA or DRCA Initial Liability Advocate or Delegate.
- Knowledge:A strong, working understanding of the DVA initial liability framework.
- Qualifications:Possession of, working towards, or the ability to obtain an ATDP Level 2 qualification.
- Skills:High attention to detail, exceptional time management, and solid written/verbal advocacy skills.
- Clearances:Possession of, or ability to obtain, a transparent National Police Check and relevant state clearances (e.g., Working with Vulnerable People/Children check, if required).
