Nurse Mates is looking for an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse with continence assessment and management experience to join our growing clinical team.
This is a specialised community nursing opportunity for an RN who enjoys working autonomously, completing comprehensive clinical assessments, developing individualised continence management plans and helping people achieve greater dignity, independence and quality of life.
You’ll work directly with participants across community, home and residential settings, with some services and follow-up able to be delivered remotely through telehealth where clinically appropriate.
The opportunity
As a Continence Nurse with Nurse Mates , you’ll be responsible for providing evidence-informed and person-centred continence assessment, management, education and clinical recommendations.
Your work will include:
- Conducting comprehensive bladder and bowel continence assessments
- Developing and reviewing individualised Continence Management Plans
- Assessing continence patterns, toileting ability, mobility, cognition, communication, skin integrity and relevant clinical history
- Assessing continence-related clinical risks, including skin integrity concerns
- Recommending appropriate continence products, aids and assistive technology
- Preparing clinical justification and supporting documentation for continence-related funding and assistive technology where applicable
- Providing education to participants, families,
carers and support workers
- Providing catheter, bowel and stoma-related education and support within your professional scope and competency
- Preparing professional clinical and NDIS reports
- Collaborating with GPs, allied health professionals, support coordinators, RNs and other treating professionals
- Identifying and appropriately escalating clinical risks or matters requiring further assessment or referral.
What we're looking for
You’ll be an RN with strong clinical judgement who is comfortable working independently in the community while recognising when consultation, referral or escalation is required.
Essential requirements
- Current Registered Nurse registration with AHPRA
- Demonstrated knowledge and competency in continence assessment and management
- Relevant nursing experience and demonstrated clinical competency
- Strong clinical documentation and skilled report-writing skills
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance , or ability to meet applicable screening requirements
- Current CPR and applicable mandatory clinical training
- Current and valid driver's licence
- Access to a roadworthy and appropriately registered vehicle with current comprehensive motor vehicle insurance where using your own vehicle for work
- Ability to travel to participant locations as required
- Availability to provide services on at least one day per week
Experience in disability or community nursing, catheter management, bowel care, stoma management, aged care, NDIS clinical reporting and continence-related assistive technology will be highly regarded.
Relevant postgraduate education or professional development in continence nursing, community nursing, rehabilitation nursing or a related clinical field is desirable.
