My name is Matt, I run Day One Advisory. We're a bookkeeping and accounting practice with a specialisation in ecommerce businesses.
We're growing fast, and we need a senior resource to assist us deliver quality, timely work for a portfolio of clients.
This is a hands-on role. You're not managing a workflow board or chasing capacity reports, that's already covered. You're the most experienced pair of hands on your portfolio. You do the work that's too complex for a junior, you review the work that isn't, and you're the person the juniors come to when they're stuck. You'd also deal with clients directly, so you need to be comfortable picking up the phone and being in direct contact with clients. If you like being the technical expert rather than the manager, this will suit you.
Here's what I need from you:
Own the delivery on a portfolio of bookkeeping and BAS clients. The quality of what goes out the door is yours.
Review the work of two junior bookkeepers and help them get better, not just fix their mistakes.
Handle the complex end yourself. Monthly close, the reconciliations that don't behave, client onboarding and file set-up.
Be the first point of contact for client queries and keep those relationships strong.
Here's what would make you successful in the role:
At least 5 years of bookkeeping experience across multiple clients at a time in an accounting practice (this is a must have).
Exposure to ecommerce clients and the nuances that come with that industry, including integrations,
clearing accounts, inventory and the rest (also a must have).
Strong Xero skills and a solid handle on GST and BAS.
You embrace tech and automation. You'd rather build a better process than do the same manual task a hundred times, and you're comfortable working inside tools and workflow systems.
Initiative to diagnose problems and the drive to correct them.
Here are some of the perks:
Bonuses when we exceed budget.
An extra week of paid leave over Christmas if we hit our tax lodgement target.
An extra public holiday on Melbourne Cup Monday.
A flexible work policy. Fully remote if that suits you, with our office in Frankston there when you want to get out of the house. Do your hours however you like. Just get the result and I don't care how you go about it.
A modern firm that actually wants to change things. We're not interested in the "this is how we did it last year" approach. We build our own tools, question our own processes, and back people who want to make things better rather than just keep the lights on.
This job can also be part-time for the right candidate but the minimum working days would be 4 days per week.
Longer term, this isn't a seat-filler. I'm building this firm to run on strong systems and strong people. If you want to become the person our trickiest ecommerce clients get handed to, there's a transparent path here.
