Workers' Compensation Medical Management Lead

What you will be doing:
The Medical Management Leader leads a national multidisciplinary team responsible for the governance, oversight, and optimisation of medical and rehabilitation services across workers' compensation claims portfolios. The role provides strategic leadership over medical expenditure, independent medical examinations (IMEs), rehabilitation provider performance, treatment governance, and complex injury management to ensure injured workers receive timely, appropriate, evidence-based care while achieving sustainable recovery and return-to-work outcomes.

To be successful in this role you should have:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in allied health, Nursing, or related field is desirable.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience leading teams within self-insured workers’ compensation schemes or similar environments.
- Strong case management experience with the ability to drive successful claims outcomes while balancing cost control and team member wellbeing.
- Experience thriving in a challenging and dynamic role that requires adaptability to evolving regulatory and operational changes.
- Demonstrated experience establishing governance frameworks and controls.
- Demonstrated experience managing national provider panels and vendor relationships.
- Experience managing Excess of Loss (XOL) portfolios and reinsurance recoveries.
Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to change in a complex and fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of medical and paramedical terminology and injury treatment processes.
- Proven conflict resolution and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated empathy for injured individuals and a strong commitment to customer service excellence.
- Advance knowledge of workers’ compensation injury management and return to work principles.
- Strong understanding of medical treatment pathways, surgical and conservative treatment options.
- Ability to critically review medical reports, treatment plans, rehabilitation programs and clinical recommendations.
- Understanding of clinical governance and quality assurance frameworks.
- Strong decision-making capability on complex medical and liability matters.
