Sydney
Here's something most people outside the industry don't know. A lot of the people running operations desks at freight forwarders started exactly where this role starts. On the floor, checking cargo, packing containers, learning how a shipment really gets from a Sydney depot to the other side of the world.
This is that start.
Our client is a well-established international freight forwarder with a busy depot in Sydney. They move sea and air freight for a broad mix of customers and work with their overseas operations teams every day. They want someone who will treat this role as a first rung and grow from it.
What the job actually looks like
Most days start with the pickup list. You'll head out in a company vehicle, collect freight, count the pieces, check weights and dimensions, look for damage and get the paperwork signed. Back at the depot, you'll check cargo in against its documents, label it, log it in the system and put it where it needs to go.
Then there's the packing. FAK and FCL containers, planned properly so the space is used well and the weight is balanced. You'll secure the load, tally it against the manifest, record seal numbers and take photos.
You'll learn the paperwork side too. Bills of lading,
air waybills, manifests, cartage notes. Getting them right before cargo moves. You'll lodge consols and TACT shipments at the airport, and keep the overseas operations team in the loop so Sydney jobs stay on track.
And yes, you'll keep the warehouse clean, tidy and safe. Everyone does.
Where it goes from here
Once you've settled in, the company will put you through your DG qualification and forklift licence. After that the path opens up. Documentation, operations, customs, cargo desk. How far you go mostly comes down to how much you put in.
What you need
- A current forklift licence. This one is non-negotiable
- A full driver's licence and a clean driving record
- Warehouse, freight, transport or logistics experience
- An eye for detail. A wrong piece count or a missed weight bothers you
- A safety-first attitude and the confidence to speak up about hazards
- Clear communication and the ability to get on with people
- DG qualification is a bonus, not a requirement
The details
Permanent, full time
Based in Rockdale with parking onsite.
