About us

Mount Isa Special School is set amongst the beautiful rugged red rolling hills with the industrial backdrop of a major Queensland mine operation. We are the most remote and rural special school in Queensland. Our school provides highly individualised programs based on the Australian Curriculum, for all students who are diagnosed with an intellectual disability and or multiple disabilities including physical, visual and hearing impairments and autistic spectrum disorders. Your opportunity

- As the Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation and workplace of the school by providing a high level of grounds and facilities to the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate.




- You will perform a range of activities to ensure that the school is maintained to a high standard; follow set instructions; and have independence to perform a variety of day-to-day services that are routine in nature. However, the role receives regular supervision when undertaking duties that are non-routine in nature.
- This position forms part of a talent pool for upcoming part time and/or relief opportunities.

Responsibilities

- Maintain school grounds, gardens, ovals and sporting facilities.
- Undertake routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities, furniture and equipment.
- Operate and maintain grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
- Assist with school events, room setups, furniture movement and general facilities support.
- Manage stores, supplies, stocktaking and school assets.
- Support school security, including opening and locking buildings.
- Manage waste and general cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
- Maintain safe work practices and ensure equipment, chemicals and materials are safely handled.
- Liaise with contractors and tradespeople regarding maintenance requirements.
