Join a Growing Rail Infrastructure Contractor
Diverse Asset Maintenance Services (DAMS) has secured a long-term Queensland Rail vegetation management contract servicing rail corridors between St Lawrence and Proserpine.
We are seeking an experienced Queensland Rail qualified Rail Corridor Protection Officer (RCPO) to join our team in a permanent part time role, with expected hours of up to 38 hours per week.
This position supports a Queensland Rail contract with an initial term of 3 years, with a possible 2-year extension.
This is a hands-on role combining both RCPO responsibilities and active participation in vegetation management operations. The successful applicant will work as part of a field crew undertaking slashing, mowing, whipper-snipping, weed control and general vegetation management activities throughout the Queensland Rail corridor.
The Role
Rail Safety & RCPO Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
- Act as the nominated Queensland Rail qualified RCPO for work crews operating within the rail corridor.
- Liaise with Queensland Rail Network Control.
- Authorise worksite access and rail corridor entry.
- Conduct daily pre-starts and site risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with Queensland Rail rail safety requirements.
- Monitor worksite activities and maintain corridor protection arrangements.
- Complete rail safety documentation, permits, records and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate daily work activities and workforce deployment.
Vegetation Management Responsibilities
The successful applicant will also actively participate in operational works including:
- Operating tractors (135HP+).
- Operating slashing and mowing equipment.
- Reach mowing and general vegetation maintenance.
- Ride-on mowing operations.
- Whipper-snipping around rail infrastructure and assets.
- Herbicide application and weed spraying programs.
- Weed management and vegetation control activities.
- Fire mitigation and fuel-load reduction works.
- Vegetation clearance around rail assets, signals, level crossings and infrastructure.
- Daily plant inspections and routine maintenance checks.
- Completion of work records and operational reporting.
This is a working supervisor position and applicants must be willing and capable of actively participating in field operations.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must hold:
- Current Queensland Rail RCPO Qualification.
- Current RIW Card.
- Current Category 3 Rail Medical.
- Queensland Rail SARC Qualification.
- Working in Electrified Territory (WET).
- Apply Fatigue Management Strategies competency.
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Current unrestricted Australian Driver Licence.
- Demonstrated Queensland Rail corridor experience.
- Experience operating tractors, slashers, mowers or similar plant.
- Ability to travel throughout regional Queensland as required.
Highly Desirable
- Network Lockout competency.
- Operate Under Track Protection Rules competency.
- ACDC Chemical Accreditation.
- Herbicide spraying experience.
- Chainsaw competency.
- Brush cutter / whipper-snipper competency.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Experience supervising field-based crews.
- Vegetation management experience within rail, civil, local government or infrastructure environments.
Travel & Away-From-Home Work
This position involves working throughout the Queensland Rail corridor between St Lawrence and Proserpine.
Applicants must be willing to:
- Travel regularly throughout the contract area.
- Stay away from home during the working week when required.
- Work on projects involving overnight stays in motel-style accommodation.
- Work in both urban and remote regional locations.
Company-provided motel-style accommodation will be supplied when employees are required to work away from home. Applicable meal and living-away-from-home allowances will be paid in accordance with employment conditions.
