Trainee Materials Officer
to join a government department based in
Warwick, QLD
.
n
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop practical experience in materials testing and road transport infrastructure. Working alongside experienced staff, you will undertake a combination of laboratory and field-based activities involving the sampling and testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, bitumen and asphalt.
About the Role n
As a Trainee Materials Officer, you will receive supervision and on-the-job training while assisting with materials testing, pavement investigations and site sampling activities.
Key responsibilities include: n
n
Perform materials testing procedures under supervision and in accordance with departmental standards, specifications, policies and procedures
n
Undertake sampling and testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, bitumen and asphalt
n
Assist with investigation and research projects using project management principles
n
Assist with the analysis of test data, ensuring accurate and timely results
n
Operate testing equipment, apparatus and reagents in accordance with documented procedures
n
Ensure PPE and other safety equipment is correctly used at all times
n
Comply with WH&S; requirements, departmental policies, legislation and governance obligations
n
Assist experienced staff with pavement investigations and site sampling exercises
n
Travel to various locations throughout the region to undertake field work
n
Work across both indoor laboratory and outdoor field environments
n
Undertake regular physical duties including shovelling, lifting samples and equipment up to 25kg and walking across uneven or adverse terrain
n

About You To be considered for this opportunity, you will have: n
n
Current Class C Driver Licence – mandatory
n
Ability to safely undertake manual handling and lift samples/equipment weighing up to 25kg
n
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
n
Willingness to undertake regional travel and field work
n
Ability to work in isolated locations where mobile phone coverage may be limited
n
Valuable attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures
n
Sound numeracy skills
n
Basic computer skills
n
A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
n
A positive attitude and willingness to learn
n
Travel & Field Work n
The position involves travelling with experienced staff to undertake pavement investigations and site sampling exercises at various locations throughout the region.
n
At times, you may be required to work in isolated locations with limited or no mobile phone coverage for periods of up to
five days
. Appropriate levels of contact will be maintained between employees and the home base.
TMR will cover required work-related travel costs, including accommodation, meals and incidentals.
n Physical Requirements This is a hands‐on position involving regular and repeated physical activity, including
manual handling, lifting up to 25kg, bending, shovelling and extended periods of standing and walking
.
